Need help getting started with Powerapps and Dynamics 365

The Scenario,

we have on the Account Form with an Account ID field where I want to show a Power App to display Sales Figures from our ERP system.

So somehow I need to pass maybe the account GUID to the Powerapp and then on the powerapp use a Flow to use the SQL connector to get data from a specific view in our DB based on a field on the Account Form.

Im unsure how to pass the proper parameters from Dynamics to use in powerapps.

Maybe some guidlines on this how to show external data in an powerapp on a Dynamics Form would be awsome

best regards

Martin

Hi @MASA

Since this is the embed canvas app on 'Account' entity Form, please use ModelDrivenFormIntegration control to get the fields from the current Account record.

Please try this:

Filter('[dbo].[vw_Customer_Invoice_Info]',Customer_Id= [@ModelDrivenFormIntegration].Item.Customer_No && Company_Code= [@ModelDrivenFormIntegration].Item.Customer_Code)

Hi @MASA

Do you mean you want to pass the current account GUID into the embed canvas app on the Form?

There is a control named ModelDrivenFormIntegration in the embed app, and it will return the values of current record.

If you want to get the current Account GUID, please try this code:

ModelDrivenFormIntegration.Item.Account

For more information: Pass the current record as data context to an embedded canvas app .

Hope this helps.

Hi @v-siky-msft ,

So my question would be, we have to custom fields on the Account form (Customer_No and Customer_Code). Can these two be passed on? And cause we want to do a lookup to our ERP onprem database to display sales figures for a specific customer based on the two fields above. I was able to connect to the table via the SQL component, however I found there to be a limitation of Max 2000 records so filtering cant be done. Any ideas how to proceed? I currently also investigate the possibility to use power automate and the SQL connector however it seems that you can not trigger a power automate flow when a power apps is loading.

Any suggestions I would be grateful.. : )

best regards

Martin

@MASA

Yes, you can. As I post above, Please try the following codes to get the Customer_No and Customer_Code value of the current record.

ModelDrivenFormIntegration.Item.Customer_No
ModelDrivenFormIntegration.Item.Customer_Code

Could you please share the formula that has a delegation error?

Here is the workaround for SQL and Sharepoint to resolve the delegation issue. Since some function or operator is not delegable in SQL, however SQL DB itself is a delegable data source, so my workaround is that:

1. create a new Gallery, set Items property to 'SQLTableName', then the gallery will display all items from SQL because SQL is delegable.
2. apply Gallery.AllItems statement into the code, instead of 'SQLTableName', that means the filter is based on the Gallery.AllItems, which is saved in the local cache, then the code will be delegable.
3. set the Gallery Visible property to false since there is no need to display this gallery, It's just a container for data.

Example:

1. there is an undelegable code: Filter('[dbo].[Employee]',IsBlank(fname)=false), see the left gallery

2. add a gallery, set Items to '[dbo].[Employee]', see the middle gallery

3. modify the code: Filter(Gallery1.AllItems,IsBlank(fname)=false), it becomes delegable now. see the right gallery.

Hi @v-siky-msft ,

I try to reproduce your suggestion, I did get the data as expected to connect the DB to a galler see image:

2020-02-20_10h56_17.png

However when trying to apply the Gallery Filter as mention, I just get a bunch of errors, seems like i'm missing something?

'Filter(Gallery4.AllItems,IsBlank(Customer_Id) = "1011")'

@MASA

Just remove the Single quotes out of Filter function.

Sik

@v-siky-msft ,

sorry m8 for spamming you with this.. I'm like super new with powerapps.. so bare with me.. 😄

I did do that now, but then I got even more errors.

Hi @MASA ,

OK, the formula you post doesn't make any sense. What is the original formula against the delegation issue(only return 2000 records)?

Do you want to filter the SQL table that Customer_ID=1011?

since this logic and formula is delegable, the formula should be:

Filter('Entity Name', Customer_Id="1011") // If Customer_Id is Text Field

Or

Filter('Entity Name', Customer_Id=1011) // If Customer_Id is Number Field

Note: IsBlank is the function to test whether a value is blank, it returns true/false. See: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/functions/function-isblank-isempty

If you want to work around the delegation error, you have to create another gallery to get all records from sql, please follow the example above, create three galleries to have a test.

hi @v-siky-msft ,

thanks for the update, yes doing some more research on the matter and so on I found that my original query was just missing som "'" and adding those I was able to filter directly on the query in hand:

Filter('[dbo].[vw_Customer_Invoice_Info]',Customer_Id="1011" && Company_Code="06")

2020-02-24_12h39_32.png

now im just going to replace the 1011 and 06 with two fields from the account form, the problem there was just that i can se a bunch of fields from account however the two I want to have i can not find? Do they have to be configured on Dynamics in a special way to show up in powerapps?

2020-02-24_12h42_45.png

the fields I want to populate there should be the following:
2020-02-24_12h45_44.png

But it seems i cant find those two fields in powerapps?

best regards

Martin
