Network error when using patch function: the requested operation is invalid when patching odata

I've been researching and troubleshooting for months on this.  I receive the error message when opening the screen in PowerApps (before anything has changed).  The error does not show up when I play my app but is indicated in the field in edit app mode.

 

The error only shows up when there is an existing value in the Account Manager field.  Data source is SP list.  All other non-people fields are patching correctly.

 

SP column name: AccountManager (verified via URL in list settings)

Combo box in PA: valAM

When there is a change to the value in the PowerApp it does successfully patch despite the error.

3. For this:

valAM.SelectedItems

Are there any blank values? If so, does making sure there are no blank values here help?

4. Which property of which control does your formula appear in? Does the same formula also appear in another property of the same or another another control as well and if so which ones? Does this formula appear OnVisible of any screen and if so which Screen(s)?


If you are currently using the "Select" trick to cause the formula to trigger from more than one place, please indicate which properties of which controls you have the formula of Select(yourControl) on. Make sure to also indicate if this formula is present OnVisible of any screen and if so which screen(s), if it is on the property of any Timer(s) which Timer(s) and which properties, or anything like that, from anywhere else or anywhere in the app.

Hi @poweractivate,

I'm using the On Change property.

If I remove the first two, I get this feedback:

Invalid argument type. Expecting a table value, but of a different schema.
Missing column. Your formula is missing a column 'Claims' with a type of 'Text'.
The function patch has some invalid arguments.

 If I remove '@odata.type': "#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedUser", it works but the error persists.

 

If I remove Department, Picture, or Job Title, I get the same error as above except calling out missing columns Department, Picture, Job Title.

 

valAM.SelectedItems -- there are some blank values.  When editing the app, the error only shows when I'm in a record that is not null.  There are 4 other people-based columns & all behave the same way.  The patch does not produce an error unless a value is populated.

 

I'm not using Select on any of the controls, all patch functions are in On Change.

 

The really strange part to me is the timing of the error in the live app.  Opens to menu page > navigate to partner overview screen > selecting a partner from the gallery opens the partner detail page.  The network operation not allowed function shows immediately upon this screen opening with no field interaction.

If it works without the  '@odata.type': "#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedUser" then you should try and leave that specific one out in general.

 

@Jamie7 Also check if this helps:

A. check if turning on the formula-level error management setting helps with this? (NOTE: it may now already be on by default, if this is a new or recently created Canvas app)

 

1. Click Settings

2. Click Upcoming Features

3. Toggle the Formula-level error management setting to On if it is Off

Then just close the modal, see if it works.

B. Instead of using "" use Blank() for the ones that have no value like Picture, JobTitle, Department, etc. 
Does this work?
if so, does error still persist?

I truly appreciate you troubleshooting with me!  Formula-level error management was already on.

 

If I try to replace "" with (), I get this error:

Invalid arugment type. Expecting a Table value, but of a different schema.
Incompatible type. The 'Job Title' column in the data source you're updating expects a 'Text' type and your using a 'Error' type.
Incompatible type. The 'Department' column in the data source you're updating expects a 'Text' type and your using a 'Error' type.
Incompatible type. The 'Picture' column in the data source you're updating expects a 'Text' type and your using a 'Error' type.
The function 'Patch' has some invalid arguements.

Did you use

Blank()

rather than ()?

it could be because the ComboBox  sometimes tries to go into the ForAll even when the valAM has no selected items.

Does this work better instead?

I'm sorry.  I updated as suggested and still get the error but only on the Account Manager field.  The other people fields are clear from error now.  The patch function currently reads:

I saved and closed the app.  Cleared cache, cookies, etc.  Re-opened and the error is back on all people fields.  Shake head
