Paste Multiple Entries into a Power App?

So I have a PowerApp on Sharepoint that works great but I am wondering if I can get it to work even better!

Right now, we are manually entering each individuals First Name, Last Name, Phone, Security ID. We receive this information via email on a Excel Spreasheet. Sometimes there can be as many as several hundred individuals we have to manually enter, which is time consuming.

I am wondering if there is a way for Power Apps to allow me to copy multiple individuals from the excel spreadsheet and paste into the Power App? Or could Flow help with this?

I would appreciate any ideas and or help on this.

@Tbruns

Sure, so now, the Gallery is your collection (a table is a table!)

Your formula now would be the following:

ForAll(
    yourGalleryName.AllItems,
    Patch('Sharepoint List Name',
        Defaults('Sharepoint List Name'),
        {
          'First Name': txtFirst.Text,
          'Last Name': txtLast.Text,
          'Security ID': txtSecurity.Text
          // and any others that you need to write back
        }
    )
);
Navigate(Screen4)

Thanks for the post, it has been extremely helpful. I just have one issue. Sometimes some of the cell in excel are empty, so the FirstN wouldn't work as expected. Any suggestion for this issue?

Nice solution presentation.  Your graphics and code really make it easy to follow along what's going on.  Best presentation of a solution I've ever seen.  Two thumbs up!

I'd place  space in those empty Excel cells.  Not sure if that would work, but it might.  If not, then perhaps a period and include in your PowerApps formulas remove it or replace it with a blank.

Hello @RandyHayes,

This is a real nice solution you've made, which I directly copied to my own app.  Though I use it a bit differently, in my case I copy paste the data of one record, instead of table of records like in your solution. So the text I copy paste is entered to Edit Form input boxes, and I can simply click save after that. So this is how I enter data of one record into my table.

Mtap_io_1-1664876710036.png

However, the issue is that my data can have empty columns, randomly. This solution doesn't recognize the empty tab spaces, instead it just enters the next-in-line column into the text input box that was empty, like this:

Mtap_io_2-1664876873613.png

The first column, "Sales doc." was missing. The data I copied is then systematically going into wrong fields, and actually the last box "ShipTypeDesc" is then empty.

I would want the App to recognize empty fields, and leave the correct field empty in the App window, so that if for example city is missing, the copy paste function would leave "City" blank.

My data source is Sharepoint List, and when I copy paste the same data there, it actually recognizes the empty columns, so that the data is copy pasted correct into correct columns in SharePoint List. I would want that same thing in Power Apps for easy user interface.

Do you know how that can be done?

Here is what I am currently using, this query is Items for a gallery. My edit form is then reading each data card value from this gallery, this is the only way I managed to get the data into Edit Form:

ForAll(
Filter(Split(
TextInput6_1.Text, Char(10)),
!IsBlank(Result)),
With({pasteData:Filter(Split(Result, Char(9)) As line, !IsBlank(Trim(line.Result)))},
{SalesDoc: If(CountRows(pasteData)>=1, Last(FirstN(pasteData, 1)).Result, ""),
SaTy: If(CountRows(pasteData)>=2, Last(FirstN(pasteData, 2)).Result, ""),
soldtopt: If(CountRows(pasteData)>=3, Last(FirstN(pasteData, 3)).Result, ""),
Name1: If(CountRows(pasteData)>=4, Last(FirstN(pasteData, 4)).Result, ""),
street: If(CountRows(pasteData)>=5, Last(FirstN(pasteData, 5)).Result, ""),
city: If(CountRows(pasteData)>=6, Last(FirstN(pasteData, 6)).Result, ""),
PostalCode: If(CountRows(pasteData)>=7, Last(FirstN(pasteData, 7)).Result, ""),
OurContact: If(CountRows(pasteData)>=8, Last(FirstN(pasteData, 8)).Result, ""),
Country: If(CountRows(pasteData)>=9, Last(FirstN(pasteData, 9)).Result, "")

}))

@RandyHayes ,

Can this be achievable if Editable grid has dropdown & Date columns?

Where does your code go?

The query was the Items for a gallery.

I have solved this issue already, the code is almost correct for my purpose, I slightly adjusted it and now it splits the text according to tab-change and recognizes empty column fields. Funny thing with this piece of code is that it's absolutely crucial for my app to function, and I barely understand the code myself. But it works 🙂

Hello, bit late on this thread but it became very relevant to a project I am working on (removing myself from managing data for a team and enabling to do it all self-service). I get the general understanding of the gallary and setting it up to copy/paste. Right now I have a separate screen setup where team can mange/update data. DOing that by using the patch syntax with the "OnChange" and works great. But question is about the submission of the data to SharePoint list after its been pasted in. does the code above "ForAll(yourGallery.AllItems, Patch(yourList, Defaults(yourList), {column: control.Text, etc.}) " get added to a submission button that just patch the whole gallary in and adds data to the list? Cheers and hope this even dated still gets a follow up

Oh man, it's been a while since this post, and I don't have access to the app anymore. From what I remember, the info is stored in multiple line field in a way that can convert back and forth from string to collection. I think I something like:

crop|map|acre$crop1|map1|acre1$crop2|map2|acre2$

 Each "|" defines a column, and each "$" defines a new row.

This post may help.
