Patch to SQL- drop down & combo boxes

Hello All, I have a two for one question for you.

I am trying to patch a form to SQL but both my drop down selections and combo boxes are showing up as NULL. My drop down selections are defined within the app ["","",""] etc. I have tried the following functions:

1)'lot_EMPLOYEENAME':EmployeeName.Selected.Value

2) 'lot_EMPLOYEENAME':EmployeeName.Selected

3) 'lot_EMPLOYEENAME':EmployeeName.SelectedText

4) 'lot_EMPLOYEENAME':EmployeeName.Selected.Value

5) 'lot_EMPLOYEENAME':Value(EmployeeName.Selected.Value)

The first try does not throw an error but it does not save. The other functions throw errors along the lines of "does not match the expected type" I have patched drop downs to SharePoint before but for some reason SQL is being a pain. Any advice on this? Thank you in advance
