Populate Drop Down items based on selected value in another DropDown.

I am attempting to get to grips with PowerApps, and this is to be my first app.

I have a DropDown (DataCardValue9) that has the following items:-

Desktop Computer

Laptop Computer

Mobile Phone

Tablet Computer

Screen

Further down my form I have another dropdown and I want this to be populated with manufacturer names based on the value in DataCardValue9.

I have a connection to a SharePoint list called Hardware, which contains just two colums - Manufacturer and Category. It contains the following data:-

Dell          Desktop Computer

Dell          Laptop Computer

Dell         Tablet Computer

Lenovo          Desktop Computer

Lenovo          Laptop Computer

Samsung          Mobile Phone

CAT                  Mobile Phone

BenQ                Screen

Suppose I choose "Mobile Phone" from the dropdown DataCardValue9, then I want my new dropdown to show just Samsung and CAT as the possible selections. Likewise if I choose "Laptop Computer", then my new dropdown should show just Dell and Lenovo.

How can I achieve this?

Thank you.

I would like to know this as well.  And how can we Sort the resulting filtered list?

Re: Populate Drop Down items based on selected value in another DropDown.

Hi @christopherpm,

We could use the dropdown1 selected value as a filter of the datasource (items property) in your second dropdown.

Just use the data you shared here as an example, assuming we have a table (named table1) with two columns, one for Manufacturer, and another is Category,

The first dropdown is used to select the Category,

Under the items property of the first dropdown, use this formula:

Distinct(Table1,Category)

Which would return single Category value for each,

Then under the Items property of your second dropdown, use the formula below:

Filter(Table1,Category=DataCardValue9.Selected.Value).Manufacturer

Further, would you please share more details about the form type you used here?

Follow the article below and see if you need to update any form property:

Edit form and Display form controls in PowerApps

Post back if you need any further assistance.

Regards,

Michael

Re: Populate Drop Down items based on selected value in another DropDown.

Sorry for the confusion, not a normal drop down, but the drop down that comes within the Edit Form.  The DataCard does not include an 'Items'.  It has DataSource, DataField, Default.  There is no Items.
