Populating a Word Document: Need help to show the full Formula Box Hint Text

Hi Everyone!

So I have made a PowerApp to populate 8 word files in one go, and there are seventy fields that need be filled up. Now I am at the last step in linking the PowerApp to the Power Automate flow, but I can't see the top row and can't see the order of six fields.

My Question is: Is there a way to display the top two rows of the formula hint text (as shown below, I am also not sure if I am calling it by its correct term) that is being covered by the PowerApps Title Bar?

I was not able to find an existing solution since I don't know exactly the name of the hint text that appears above the formula bar. I am using a chrome browser if it makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Paul-Berry

There is no OOB to adjust the size or something like to display the complete flow parameters, but here is a alternative workaround.

1. Edit the Flow in Flow Tab from PowerApps

2. Click Peek Code in ellipsis of PowerApps trigger in MS flow

3. All Parameters just show in it, and you can know what actually they are.

Hi @Paul-Berry ,

I have struck that one on not just Word documents, but there are three solutions (or more accurately workarounds), depending on what you are doing and the number of Flow parameters you are passing.

  • For "just over" (one extra line or so), reduce your browser zoom while you are filling in the fields - you will see more of them.
  • Reduce the size of your parameters name and flow trigger - your parameters are good, but the trigger is PopulateMicrosoftWordtemplate. Rename the Flow step to something as simple a Merge - it takes up a lot less real estate and you may even see it all.
  • For Word Merges, however there is a simpler solution and one that I use on all of mine. Instead of sending all the merge fields from Power Apps, for data that belongs in a list, write it there first, then send the ID of the list item, get the item (You will need Get items and the Apply to each) and take the merge field from the list.

Thanks @v-siky-msft ,

Interesting workaround if all else fails.

Thank you both @v-siky-msft  and Warren!

I have tried the suggestion to zoom out the browser setting a while ago and I only got two extra parameters. The solution to peek code was the one that got me to finish the PowerApp.

Unfortunately for me, it seems that I do not have a premium license (silly me) since I just went through all the steps and I only got the prompt to get a premium license when I tried to run the app with the flow. I am not really the IT of our company and just an enthusiast. I thought of making the powerapp to save some people some man hours copy-pasting fields of text. Getting the premium license for myself would not substantiate since I'll just be doing basic stuff. I will just keep this PowerApp I made in my library just in case.

@WarrenBelz   Sir, you mentioned:

could you elaborate on this? or is there a workaround that does not use a premium feature?

Once again, thank you both very much.

Paul

Hi @Paul-Berry ,

I thought that the shortening of the name of the Flow component together with the browser zoom might have done it for you as I have Flows with probably more parameters than this. I am actually surprised that you can work through 70 fields on Peek Code, but obviously it worked for you.

I will mention a concept here and you will have to work our how many Premium licences you need, but if you had an audit/tracking List in SharePoint and Patched created a new record to it with fields such as the ID of the List item containing the data for the merge, the file name required and an email address to send it back to, you could run the whole Flow off "When an  item is created" in SharePoint (rather than attach it to a Power Apps trigger)..

I mentioned "apply to each" as you have to use "Get Items' in the Flow to expose the Filter, which you can set to

ID eq YourExportedIDFieldName

(the field name from the audit list), which you would then use the fields to populate the Word template.

Happy to discuss further.
