We have launched Power Apps app side panes public preview. You can read more about app side panes in the blog post. As you use app side panes, we'd love to hear your feedback. What did you find helpful? What additional features could we add? This community post will be used to consolidate all feedback on the in-app notifications. Thank you for your feedback.
lets do this
Can we load this as a global pane i.e. when Dynamics opens? currently we direct the user to a specific location to load the pane, only issue is when the browser is refreshed. definitely nice to see some progress on the control.
When this feature will be available to use it in production situations? Is there a release plan for it?
Good question, from what I have seen from the previous release it was in public preview for over 2 years, having said that companies are already using the new release in production as its backwards compatible with the previous one. Here is a really good place to start it covers loading it onload with D365 and also using its different capabilities. https://dynamics-chronicles.com/article/powerapps-side-panes-tutorial
@aorth This presents a great opportunity to leverage custom pages and canvas apps, but a crucial feature is missing from the API. You cannot close the pane programmatically based on navigation.
For instance, I can create a pane when I open a form to edit related records in a custom page. I can close that pane when the record is saved. But if I navigate back to the list (or another area in the site map), the pane stays. There is no Unload event in the form, no Load event in the list, and no OnClick event in the sitemap navigation. The pane needs to be aware of the context in which it was opened to be useful.
@aorth any thoughts on what @HammockDweller has said? The mentioned capabilites would be a really nice alternative to a side window loading with using the navigateTo xrm capability, especially for scenarios where you don't really want a command bar button to open up a popup side window, that blocks out the rest of the form.
