Power Apps SubmitForm fails intermittently if a Power Automate flow is running on the SharePoint item

I have a Power Apps form linked to a SharePoint365 list.  A Power Automate flow is triggered when a new item is created.  On the form I have some radio button controls in data cards on a form, and the radio button controls are derived from, and linked to, choice columns on the list.  The choice columns have defaults set.  If I use the Power App form WITHOUT a flow running, the buttons behave perfectly, the buttons show the correct default and the choices made by the user on the form update the list when a SubmitForm action is executed via a save icon.  When the flow is running there are Do Until actions that wait for the choice columns to change from the default, after the user presses a radio button, and the flow then moves on.  At no point in the flow are the choice columns updated by the flow, the only changes are done by the radio buttons.

The problem:  Sometimes, but not always, the radio buttons revert to the default when the SubmitForm action is performed.  When this happens the SubmitForm action does not register as a success (which I detect using the OnSuccess property to navigate away from the screen).  If the user then re-selects the radio button choice and activates the SubmitForm using a Save icon again, the SubmitForm ALWAYS works and the change in choice persists in the specific choice column.  Has anyone else seen this behaviour and found a solution please?

I sense that the flow is somehow intermittently preventing the SubmitForm from being successful.  I do have delays built into the Do Until loops.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.  Stan.

Hi,

This is definitely some odd behavior, I've personally never seen something like this happen before. How often does this reproduce? Could you get it to reproduce often enough to demonstrate to other people? If so this might be something that you would want to create a ticket on with Microsoft Support. I'll include a link below if you would like to go down that route. Otherwise if any other communities members have some across this feel free to chime in.

If you would like to create a ticket with Microsoft Customer Support here is a link on how to do so: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/get-help-support

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your response.  I would say that the intermittent failure of the SubmitForm occurs about 50% of the time.  I will in future keep a log of the failures, together with any observations.  One thing that I should have mentioned is that most of the flow is within an overarching Do Until & Switch combination that simulates a state machine, a feature that Power Automate currently lacks. This includes the Do Until loops that wait for the radio buttons to change from the defaults.

Kind regards,

Stan
