Power apps user doesn't have read access to custom connector

Hi,

I have an app with an a solution aware custom connector, the connector has no security and should be open to everyone.

Works great for me but when my users try to sign into the connector for first time they get

 

The user 'c2fd807d-a6ab-ec11-983f-000de' does not have sufficient access rights to perform this operation on entity with id b027ca62-f33c-489b-9fec-703d3ef7aff4 in instance with URL 'https://org65ec7500.crm.dynamics.com/' . Required access right 'ReadAccess' is missing.

The user is in an ad security group, with basic security role.

I have also tried setting as environment maker and sharing the connector directly with them but no change

You need to have Org level Read access on the Connector entity in whatever security role that is assigned to the user experiencing this issue. All users have the Environment Maker role in the Default environment. This security role only grants User level Read access on the Connector entity. You cannot update this role, therefore another role would need to be created which grants this access to bypass this error.

Just a quick update on this, after reaching out to Microsft we identified the issue. It turns out that if you assign access to an app and security role through an AD group, the user doesnt actually get the security role until they first sign in (on any app, as the user isnt added to the dataverse user table until they sign in, this table then gets relationship with the security roles table).

And heres the catch, if this is the uses first app in that environment, and the app has a custom connector, they cant get the security role until they sign if for first time, and they cant sign in until they have a security role.
There are a couple of work arounds

  1. A user provisoning script for when they are added to the AD group
  2. Get the user to click on the environments dynamics url (it will take them to a screen saying no apps, but this allosw them to sign into the environment for the first time)
  3. Create a training app without the custom connector, this will do the same and sign them in allowing, secruity role
  4. Create a flow that triggers when user added to AD group, which then creates entry in user table and relationship with security role (Basic works for all custom connectors) i created guide here Power App Custom Connector Security Group Fix - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com)

Hi Dave,

Have u asked this user 'c2fd807d-a6ab-ec11-983f-000de' to directly access your instance 'https://org65ec7500.crm.dynamics.com/' and whether he could normally access instance? 
It seems user has no entity read permission and he may not access to above mentioned environment if this instance is limited to specific security group. Thanks.

Thank you for support. In the end i toook a different approach and tracked down the entity id to the custom connector. After trial and error i found the AD group wasnt reading the security role Basic i had set it. I believe this is because the group was hybrid on prem and not cloud, but not certain yet
