PowerApp for external users

Hi,

my requirement is to create a PowerApp for external users.

Here I found two options:

Share with guest:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/share-app#share-with-guests

PowerApps Portals:
https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Power-Apps-Ideas/Share-with-external-users/idi-p/4114

In my research, it sounds like you have no way to simply make a mobile PowerApp public. You can only share them with guests you've created before.

The solution would be PowerApp Portals, the website is here for all Internet users public

Do I really see that, or are there other ways to make a mobile PowerApp public?

Best greetings

Hi @superfliege ,

Do you want to share PowerApps to external users?

Currently, the canvas apps can only be shared with internal users and Guest users of Azure AD. Expect that ,there is no way to make the mobile Apps public.

But the PowerApps portal is external-facing websites that allow users outside their organizations to sign in with a wide variety of identities, create and view data in Common Data Service, or even browse content anonymously.

That means that the portal can be access by both internal and external user(authenticated), even the anonymous user.

The Portal administrators can set access rights to CDS entity data for various types of users.

So the PowerApps Portal is more in line with your needs, I think.

Best regards,

Sik

Hi @superfliege

What you've said here is spot on. There's no way to share a mobile canvas app with external users.

A portal app is the way to go here.

Just to comment on what you mentioned about portals being open for all public internet users, it's possible to configure authentication on a portal, which would allow you to restrict the external users that can access your app.

Hi There,

This is for those who have shared apps externally with users and want those apps to show up on the users mobile device.

Here is a semi somewhat work around that you can try.

Tested on an android device

1.) Share the app as per normal process for a external user and make sure when you share it, that it will also send them a email notification.

2.) Make sure powerapps is installed on their mobile device.

3.) Advise the external user to open the email from the mobile device and select "open app". It should prompted them to either open via the browser or powerapp, Choose "Powerapps" of course.

4.) Sign in as per normal and there you go, it'll open in the powerapps mobile app.

5.) Swipe to the right to close, refresh your app list and you'll see the guest app in the list but all the other apps will disappear if there were other apps. Dont worry that's the "Odd" bit. Lets continue..

6.) On the gust app select the 3 dots or ellipses (not sure what its called) and pin the app to the home screen.

To get back all the other apps that there might of been, close the powerapps mobile app and reopen it (not using the guest app icon on the home screen).

Play around from there.

Hope is helps.
