PowerApps: Not able to assign collection to Datacard Update and Default property

Hi @RezaDorrani 

I am following your video over here on MultiSelect Checkbox within Gallery control for MultiSelect choice field type for my list attached PowerApps form. However, I am not able to assign the collection to Choice DataCard as shown in the attachment. I tried on another list but same result. Could you please suggest me where I am going wrong?

There are several points you need to check:

1\ Items of the Gallery should be:

Choices(SPlist.ChoicesColumn)

2\ OnCheck of the check box:

Collect(colDays, ThisItem)

 OnUncheck of the check box:

Remove(colDays, ThisItem)

3\ Test with checking some values in the check box and see the result collection like in the video at 9:00

#1: Gallery's Item prop :- Choices([@empTest].empDept) -> empDept is choice type.

#2 & #3: yes collection is getting updated.

I am just wondering, why assigning collection to Choice DataCard's > Update property errored in "Expecting Record Value". Doesn't collection return table/record both?

Hi @Anonymous ,

I think it because in the list it is a choice column allows single selection only while you have selected multiple values to update.

If you will allow multiple choices, please set the column allow multiple selections:

If the column allows single selection, you will only be able to update a record to the table, that's what the error message telling you.

Further, I have updated Datacard Update property with {Value:collectionDayes} but now I am unable to save the item.

Hi @Anonymous ,

After changing the choices column to allow multiple selections, have you refreshed the connection in Power Apps Studio before another test? Every time we modified the data source the connection need to be refreshed.

Since it is allowing multiple selections now, the Update property of the DataCard will need a table value which is exact the collection colDays.

Hi JefferNi,

I removed/re-added list connection but still showing "Expected Record value" when trying to assign collection to Choice Datacard's > Update property. Please find screen attached.

This way, I am creating collection data in OnCheck and UnCheck event of chkIT and chkChemical checkboxes.

In Checkbox > OnCheck event: 

ClearCollect(
collectionDays,
If(
chkIT.Value,
"IT"
),
If(
chkChemical.Value,
"Chemical"
)
);

Hi @Anonymous ,

I can't see a Gallery in the Data Card, where have you put it? Please see the video from 5:22 and follow the steps without missing any. Check boxes are inside the Gallery, each choice is an item like in other galleries. The Gallery should be in the data card, you will need to cut and paste into the data card after adding to the screen. The formulas OnCheck and OnUncheck in previous reply is not correct, it will be easy to implement the function following the video.

Hi Jeff,

Given screen I tried on some other eample/list. sorry for that. Also, now I can see the solution is working after I removed/re-added connection and closing my form from browser. Thank you so much for your time and suggestions. 🙂

One last point - When I save my item, though Checkbox values are getting saved correctly but when I open another item, checkboxes are shown of last item and not current item. As mention in video by Reza, I copied the code in Screen > OnVisible property but result is same as I mentioned above. Please suggest.

Edit: Gallery1.Selected.Value is empty when I opened the existing form having values in list.
