Problem with Add Image Control and appres//blobmanager

I need to get the actual data or URI of a picture, that was added using the "Add Image"-Control.
Instead of the picture data (or URI) I get:

appres://blobmanager/18f52060d737479cad911665f4e49362/2

Which is completely useless to me.

Is there no way to access the picture data?

And if there isn't why would you even introduce this local reference?
Why would anyone want to load a picture into PowerApps but then not be ablet to process it further?
Either I am missing something or I am doing it wrong.

I am aware of the few (always the same 3) entries that get always posted as an Answer, they don't work for me.

I don't have trouble uploading a picture to Sharepoint, I have trouble getting an actual picture!

(This also seems to be a relatively new problem? In all the older posts people don't seem to have trouble with the actual selection of the picture.)

I am grateful for any help.

Have you considered doing a Flow that usines the 'Populate a Micrsoft Word template' instead of the HTML?

I'm not sure your situation but it is really easy to use and get the layout where you like it and I like it for displaying images directly in the document.

If not...you can show an image in your html. There is a video that Laura Rogers did that is using the pen input but she shows how to put a signature into HTML for an email. I prefer the other option in Flow but the way she does it works too. It is a different need than you have but the concept and how she does it will be the same. Let me know if you do that and can't find her video and I will see if I can relocate it.

@rebeccas I will give it a try and let you know.

Currently im trying to save the image to azure blob storage but still no success.

@Anonymous

I have done some research into the Azure Blog Storage and would like to try it soon but we don't have an account for that yet...we just use SharePoint and OneDrive for our storage so I will be no help on storage outside of those two options.

Good luck!

Hi @Anonymous ,

There is a hack through Flow to solve this issue.

Have a look at this blog by John Liu.

http://johnliu.net/blog/2019/4/flowninja-hack-87-lock-microsoft-flow-powerapps-trigger-to-upload-images-to-sharepoint-with-ease

You can skip the first part of the blog where he dives into the code of diveren connectors to find the sollution. The 2nd part of the blog describeds the hack.

Basically the steps are:

  1. Create a Flow triggered from PowerApps
  2. Add a condition that will result in a false output (for example 1 = 2)
  3. In the 'If Yes' branche add a Outlook - Send an Email action.
    This action will never be run, so whatever you put in the To, Subject and Body fields doesn't matter.
  4. In the Attachments Name - 1 and Attachments Content - 1 add  the 'Ask in PowerApps' dynamic content parameter.
  5. Add a SharePoint - Create File action and add the site address and folder path.
  6. Add the generated dynamic content parameter created during step 4 in the File name and File content fields.
    Make sure they match up correctly to Outlook Attachments - 1 fields.

Add the Flow to execute from within your app and make sure to provide the requested parameters (file name & file content). File name you need to generate yourself (for example GUID(). & ".jpg"). For the file content you can use the output of the Add Image control (appres://blobmanager/.... etc.).

And run!

Tried it out today. Works like a charm (allthough a little bit weird work around).

I posted a video the other day on putting a signature from PowerApps into a pdf document. An image of any sort would work the same. I'm new at the whole "video" thing but check it out and see if it will help with what you are wanting to do.

Thank you very much. It worked for me.

An easy and multi-purpose solution is found to add pen-input to Sharepoint/Email/PDF by utilizing the addition of a PowerApps Json functionality added on 02/05/2019.

The Short description on how to make this work is to save the pen input image in a JSON format asking the JSON function to include Binary Data:

Set( PenVar, JSON( PenInput1.Image,JSONFormat.IncludeBinaryData ) );

Hi.

Did you use a variable to set the URL? Mine is still patching the 'appres://blobmanager/9fc1b32c30f24163a3d82e4783d322ed/5' through to my azure sql table.

@rebeccas

I have almost the same situation as your video. I have a peninput where the user signs. I want to take that signature and add it to the CDS entity attachments. In my PowerApp I have a peninput control and an image control. I created a flow similar to what you illustrated with the unused Outlook send mail. However, when I call the flow and pass Image1.Image to the attachmentscontent-1 parameters, it get passed in as appres://blobmanager/0e690be32d704c3c83af0316cd513032/20.

Then to test to be sure I have the proper file, I save to OneDrive. When I look at the file named test.jpeg instead of an image it creates a file with the text appres://blobmanager/0e690be32d704c3c83af0316cd513032/20. I would have expected it to the the base64 encoded image string.

Any ideas what might be missing?

Thanks

Flow made some updates recently (imagine that) that changed all of this. My existing Flows still work but going forward I had to find a new way of doing BUT I like this new way better so no biggie. I am working on a video on how to do now (mostly for myself..lol) but I will post the link to it shortly to show how to do.
