RSS feed connection does not pick up on custom fields

I've used an RSS feed as the data connection in a gallery. The feed is for events rather than news, so we have fields like event start date and end date. However these don't show up as feed items.

I can see from the documentation that there is a standard list of feed items available. Is there no way I can get my custom fields?

No I don't think there was a way to do it unfortunately. I had to give up on an RSS feed altogether.
