Record Limitation

I have an app I've built that has >1000 records and would like to have it grow to ten thousand.  Why is PowerApps limited to only 2000?  SQL servers have 100's of thousands?  Is this deliberately designed to be this limited or am I thinking of the architecture wrong?

Thanks.

Hey @astrontelstar

The more amount of data, less the performance of the app would be. That's why there is a limitation just 2000 items.

But by using filter you can optimize many things for you.

Or you can use the collections technique to get more items.

Hello @astrontelstar

Yes, it's by design to improve performance.

The key is to use delegable queries. I just made an app for my organization that is connected to a SP list with over 10k records. It returns results in about a second or less. As long as you use delegable queries, you can return way over 2000 records (depends on your datasource) and you will be fine. For example, I am using SortBy Columns, Filter, and StartsWith ... all of which are delegable to quickly return records. However, if I used CountRows (which is not delegable), I am limited to returning only 2000 records.

Read https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/canvas-apps/delegation-overview and view the limits for your paticular connection.

I am also not using any collections, which can slow down your initial load, and microsoft recommends minimizing. Read MS Power Apps coding standards: https://pahandsonlab.blob.core.windows.net/documents/PowerApps%20canvas%20app%20coding%20standards%2...

Best Wishes
