Renaming an entity using a Solution Package

I have a model-driven app Solution that includes the Account entity and renames it to Foo.  I also rename many of the associated structures such as views (e.g. Active Foos).

In my DEV environment everything looks fine, however, when I deploy the solution to STAGING, it does not rename the entity labels (both or plural).  The views are renamed properly.

Any thoughts on what I might be missing?

Solved it.  Updating this thread for anyone that get stuck on the same thing although perhaps it was obvious to everyone but me!

  • Navigated to the Classic Solution Explorer for the custom solution
  • Navigate to the Entity
  • Click "Add Subcomponents"
  • Check the checkbox: "Include entity metadata"
  • Save/Publish

Export the managed custom solution, import to a new environment and the name change will take effect as expected.

Hi @Helpful ,

Could you please share a bit more about your scenario?

Do you rename the Account Entity name within your Model-Driven app Solution?

I have made a test on my side, and don't have the issue that you mentioned. Please check if you have published your changes to the Account Entity within your Solution after you renamed the Account Entity name:1.JPG

After you rename your Account Entity, please click "Publish" option as above to publish your changes to your Account Entity.

Note: When you rename the Account Entity name, the Plural display name property would not be updated automatically, you need to change the Plural display name value manually.

Hello,

Thank you for responding.  My customization has been published in the environment I am working in (DEV).  It's when I export the solution (managed) and import into a new environment, STAGING, that the customization doesn't seem to take effect.

In your screenshot you are using the CDS Default Solution.  If you create a new solution "Test Solution" and rename the Account entity then deploy that solution to a new environment, it would be a representative test.

Curious to hear your results!

I still haven't figured this out and if anyone could weigh-in it would be helpful.

Has anyone successfully renamed a standard entity using a solution package?

Would love if somone could test this in their environment.  I'm still not having any luck.

  1. Create a new solution "Foo"
  2. In new solution change the Account entity to "Bar"
  3. Create a new trial environment and import solution Foo

Is the Account entity renamed successfully to "Bar"?
