Retaining the previous selection from a dropdown during editing instead of going to the first selection in the dropdown list

I have a SP list that contains a dropdown in the form.  We will call this list "Status"  The dropdown is populated from another SP list we will call "sites" that contains the selections.  The form properly fills the list item when saved.

The issue occurs when editing a list item.  The dropdown defaults to the first selection in the list instead of retaining the original selection.  How do I get it to retain the original selection?

Setup for dropdown1

ACTION

     Onselect = false

     OnChange = false

DATA

     Items = 'Sites'

     Value = Title

        Default = "1"

        Reset = false

Setup for the Sites list

Dropdown data is listed in the Title column and has no other columns

Re: Retaining the previous selection from a dropdown during editing instead of going to the first selection in the dropdown list

Hi @avsmillar ,

Do you mean that the drop down will not display the field's data belong to this edit form?

Could you tell me data type of Status field ,Status datacard's Update and the data type of sites?

If these two fields are both simple data type,you could try this:

set Status datacard's Default:

ThisItem.Status

set the drop down's Default:

Parent.Default

Is this an edit form? If so, the dropdown's default property should be set to ThisItem.YourValue where YourValue is the column you want selected.
If not, you can do YourGallery.Selected.YourValue

Eric,

This is an edit form.  I want it to retain the previously selected item.

I have added a word document that might clear up what I am trying to accomplish.

Hi

Try to update default property with 'ThisItem.Site' the quick way.

To do it properly update default for datacard and in textbox set default to Parent.Default as @v-yutliu-msft  proposed.

Check file attached.
