SAVING A COLLECTION TO EXCEL IN ONEDRIVE

Hello folks,

I am relatively new to the powerplatform and would like to ask for help with regards to saving a collection into an Excel worksheet somewhere on the cloud (one drive). I am building an app which as a login page, and i would like to collet all user logins at where ever time the app is used.

So I created a collection to capture data(User Email address) from the login page and a label control set as [now()] to capture date information. I am at a point where i do not seem to know how to push the data in the collection to a permanent storage location like Excel. And that is where i need help the most at this time.... Any usefull information and tips would go a long way to helping me out. thanks.

Your solution can be found in my last reply, your table must be formatted excel table after which powerapps would also assign unique ID to it automatically.

I repeat the reply:

There is a problem with your table, it supposed to have automatic powerapp ID. I suggest you delete the Table connection in powerapps, recreate the table and reconnect again.

 Your Patch formula is ok.

Hi @christianugbor ,

Based on the issue that you mentioned, it seems to tell that you are opening the Excel file in your OneDrive folder within your web browser.

Due to Excel file lock mechanism, when patching data to Excel file hosted in OneDriver folder from canvas app, please make sure the Excel file is not opened within your web browser.

Please consider close the Excel file from your browser, then re-load your app, try the Patch formula again, check if the issue is solved.

Hi @christianugbor ,

Please make sure the Excel file is closed from your web browser. Then edit your canvas app, remove the Excel table connection from your app, then re-add a new connection to the Excel table from your canvas app, then re-published your app, then check if the issue is solved.

If the issue still exists, please consider restart your PC, then sign in PowerApps app, run your app again, check if the issue is solved.

Note: If you shared this Excel file to other users, please also make sure other users are not opening the Excel file on his browser. If other end users are opening this Excel file, you would also face this issue.

Best regards,

With this error, make sure the excel file or one drive is closed before you do any new entries.

Ensure it completely closed or if you like log off before the entries in powerapps.

Insert a button and on the onselect, use patch:

ForAll(CollectionName,

Patch(
'[dbo].[Matrix]',Defaults('[dbo].[Matrix]'),
{ColumnName1: CollectionColumnName1,
ColumnName2: CollectionColumnName2,
ColumnName3: CollectionColumnName3,
ColumnName4: CollectionColumnName4}))

Hi @christianugbor ,

Could you please share a bit more about the data structure of your Excel table?

Do you want to patch your collection data back to your Excel table?

Based on the needs that you mentioned, I think the combination of ForAll function and Patch function could achieve your needs. Please consider add a button in your app, set the OnSelect property to following:

ForAll(
       CollectionTable,
       Patch(
             'Your Excel Table',
              Defaults('Your Excel Table'),
              {
                UserEmail: CollectionTable[@UserEmail],
                LoginTime: CollectionTable[@LoginTime]
              }
       )
)

Note: The 'UserEmail' and 'LoginTime' are both columns in your Excel table and your collection.

Please also check and see if the following thread would help in your scenario:

thank you for you response and apologies for not having replied before now.

The structure of my table in excel is very simply; there are 3 columns in there [SN, LogTime and UserID]

The SN. is a numeric field that counts the number of records in the table(I automated it to with a formula in excel so i do not need to data entered in that field from the App nor manually)

LogTime: is a field set to 'text' (reason is that i wanted a reflection of the Local time in Short DateTime, and also to avoid dealing with the date/time format in Excel.) This field should store the date information in a label control in the App whose text property is set to Now().

UserID: this field captures the user email upon logging in to the app at startup. Meaning that the app requests for an Email validation before access is granted(in the app which would be used to keep track of usage and further data analysis required)

Try:

ForAll(CollectionName,

Patch(
YourTable,Defaults(YourTable),
{LogTme: Now(),
UserID: User().Email}))

Also, are you using a form or a  gallery or just a collection

Thank you.

Am just using a collection in this case  but i do have another collection in this app that the other use gallery. My approach is that i would use collections in places where i can not use a form or where it's not neccessary.
PS: I am still at the beginners level in my powerapps usage.

If you tried the formulas and they are not working, give a screenshot of you intend doing
