Save calculation result into data source with Patch command

Hi guys!

Good one for you I'm sure. I have a value in my stock column and basically I can add or remove from the app.

I'm working on the save button but I'm stuck.

Basically, the save button should only be available to click if I have added a value in "Qty" label and did the restock or unstock (addition or substraction basically).

Also the save button would update the value in Sharepoint, here is the formula behind it:

Patch('Stock Management',First(Filter('Stock Management',Name=BrowseGallery1.Selected.Name)),{number:Label5.Text});UpdateContext({RR:true});UpdateContext({RR:false})

Please check both screenshot... fyi @mdevaney

Thanks!

Anthony

OK @AnthonyRegnier ,

This is all about refreshing values when required and should be easily solvable.

Your latest screenshot now explains issue 1. This is set on a Variable and naturally if you do not change this variable, you will continue to get its value shown - so two choices I see. Reset it on save

UpdateContext({Quantity:0})

OR Hide it on save - use Variable for Visible of control.

  1. At Save set to false
  2. At OnChange of stock box set to true

Second point as mentioned will happen with your sort order, unless you do something like setting an update time/date in the item and having an optional sort on this (descending) which would show the new item on top.

Third one put the card back and hide it

Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

HI @AnthonyRegnier ,

Two things - on your patch, I am not sure of error but if number is numeric, you will need the below.

Patch(
   'Stock Management',
   First(Filter('Stock Management',Name=BrowseGallery1.Selected.Name)),
   {number:Value(Label5.Text)}
);
UpdateContext({RR:true});
UpdateContext({RR:false})

For the save button, on the DisplayMode

If(
   isBlank(
   Label5.Text
   ),
   DisplayMode.Disabled,
   DisplayMode.Edit
)

Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

Hi @WarrenBelz  !

First of all thank you so much for taking the time to help.

The code you sent me does work and I'm now able to update the column I want! Which is "Stock" and not "Number"...

I have 4 little issues after applying the code, I hope I can benefit a bit more of your help.

1. When I change the stock after clicking save, the screen navigates automatically to another product. This is I guess because I have a sorting in my gallery that put on top always the lowest item in Stock, I'm sharing the code here for your information. How can I stay on the same product detail when updating the stock?

Sort(
    AddColumns(
        Filter(
            'Stock Management',
            StartsWith(
                Title,
                TextSearchBox1.Text
            ),
            If(
                Dropdown1.Selected.Result = "All",
                true,
                Description = Dropdown1.Selected.Result
            )
        ),
        "SortRank",
        (Stock/Threshold)
    ),
    SortRank,
    If(
        SortDescending1,
        Descending,
        Ascending
    )
)

2. The second problem I've got is that after I hit "Save" to apply new amount of item, the "number preview" remains (please see attached screenshot). And it remains in all the other products... Until I enter a new quantity and then it overrides the previous record...

3. Something I have just noticed now... When I enter a number, it calculates negative number... I'd like to avoid that or having some kind of blockage that could forbid unstocking more items that are actually in stock.

4. I have a delegation warning on the code, I have attached a screenshot for you... I'm using Sharepoint list.

I'm sorry it really feels I'm asking a lot, I really appreciate your help...

Thank you

Anthony

Hi @AnthonyRegnier ,

Could you please share a bit more about your issue?

Do you mean that you could not save the entered Qty value back to your SP List?

I have made a test on my side, please take a try with the following workaround:

Set the OnSelect property of the "Unstock" button to following:

Set(Type, "Unstock")

Set the OnSelect property of the "Restock" button to following:

Set(Type, "Restock")

Set the Visible property of the "Save" button to following:

If(
   !IsBlank(Label5.Text) && !IsBlank(Type),
   true,
   false
)

Set the OnSelect property of the "Save" button to following:

Patch(
       'Stock Management',
      LookUp('Stock Management',Name=BrowseGallery1.Selected.Name),
      {
         number: If(
                    Type = "Restock",
                    LookUp('Stock Management',Name=BrowseGallery1.Selected.Name).number + Value(Label5.Text),
                    Type = "Unstock",
                    LookUp('Stock Management',Name=BrowseGallery1.Selected.Name).number - Value(Label5.Text)
                 )
      }
);
Set(Type, Blank()); // Clear Type variable
UpdateContext({RR:true});UpdateContext({RR:false});

Note: I assume that the number column is a Number type column in your SP List

Please take a try with above solution, then check if the issue is solved.

Hi @WarrenBelz !

Very strange I have replied to you last night... And today my reply was gone, it's not the first time it happens...

Anyhow, thanks a lot for your reply I really appreciate your help!

I have applied your code and it works great thank you so much!! I have few minor issues after using your code that I'm sure we can easily fix:

1. The preview of the stock before I hit save remains forever, regardless of the product detail I navigate to. After hitting "Save" can we reset the preview value to nothing?

2. My gallery is basically sorted to show the lowest number of item first. When I open a product detail from the gallery to change the stock, as soon as I hit save the screen changes to another product (since the product changes place in the list). Please see my code of my gallery:

Sort(
    AddColumns(
        Filter(
            'Stock Management',
            StartsWith(
                Title,
                TextSearchBox1.Text
            ),
            Description = Dropdown1.Selected.Result || Dropdown1.Selected.Result = "All"
        ),
        "SortRank",
        (Stock/Threshold)
    ),
    SortRank,
    If(
        SortDescending1,
        Descending,
        Ascending
    )
)

3. After hitting Save to update the stock of a product, as explained it then changes to another product based on the gallery sorting, the preview (Quantity var) remains and I'm able to hit save over and over continuously...

Thank you in advance for your time!

Anthony

Hello @v-xida-msft  !

Thank you for your answer mate. I have tried the code that your colleague gave me before...

Are you able to see the reply I sent to @WarrenBelz ? Do you have any idea?

I'm going to try your code :).

Cheers

Thanks @AnthonyRegnier ,

Quite separate issues we now have to work through - I only fixed the syntax of your saved code and Button visibility - I cannot see your control or data structure, however from your description, if you are going to stay on the same screen and only change modes, it will generally reflect what was on it before. From your description you have a stock field that is not resetting? Is this linked to a field in the data source? Can you please also supply screen shots so I can see what you are referring to.

I am not sure what question you are asking in 2

For question 3, I will share with you how I manage screen modes (and there are certainly other models) and see if this is useful to you.

When I use the same screen for View/Edit/New, I do the following

  1. The Mode of the form is always firstly FormMode.View
  2. I force it into Edit mode with EditForm(FormName)
  3. After saving, it returns to View mode.
  4. For New records, I force it with NewForm(FormName)
  5. After a new record, I close the screen, refresh the data source and return the user to the gallery to select a record (which will now contain the new record, although it is rare they would want to edit this immediately)

I am documenting this so you can tell me how your process differs.

Dear @WarrenBelz ,

Thank you for your answer.

Apologies for not making this clear enough, I will add screenshot for better comprehension :).

So for point 1:

In the "qty" screenshot, you can see that when I enter a number then press Unstock or Restock, I have a preview displaying the future number of items in my stock. Then I click on "Save" and it updates the Stock value in the SP list. Once it's done, the "preview" number that you can see in the screenshot stays and doesn't vanish after I hit save, wherever I navigate among all the products. Maybe with the view/edit state of the form that could help solving it?

For point 2:

If you look at the screenshot "gallery", as you can see the lowest item is always first in the list... It changes dynamically... (still I have a sort button on the top right that can invert the sort to show the highest). The issue I have is when I select one of the product from the gallery to add some more stock (or remove), as soon as I hit "save" the item is not in "low" anymore or isn't the lowest and the screen moves to another item automatically... It does not stay on that same product that I have just modified the stock of.

For the point 3:

I am going to investigate what you mentioned I believe Shane Young did a video on this :).

Thanks a ton

OK @AnthonyRegnier ,

Point 1 - not sure what you mean with "Preview of the stock" - do you mean the quantity? Your gallery is based directly on the 'Stock Management' list. Maybe

Refresh(Stock Management')

after the save will do the job.

Point 2 - that is a natural behaviour the way you have your gallery sorted. You can highlight current select item with the TemplateFill property of the gallery. You could also do it with the colour of the arrow icon.

If(ThisItem.IsSelected,WhatEverColor,White)

Are you wanting it to stay on top after the save - this would be difficult without a lot of field setting and "unsetting".

Point 3 - Your original screen shot was not fresh in my mind - I assume this is a text box not connected with any data. Firstly if it is not on a form (just placed on the screen) you can simply Reset it to whatever the Default is with

Reset(Label5)

If it is on a card in a form, the button also needs to be on a card in the form (although this is probably not the case).

Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

@WarrenBelz

The preview of the stock is what I have highlighted in the attached screenshot. When I remove or add x number of a product, it tells me the future amount. Then I hit save. (screenshot attached). The "Restock" button for example has the below code:

UpdateContext({Quantity: Sum(DataCardValue2.Text,Restock_TextInput.Text)})

And the "New Stock" text input is just  next to a label that has the Item property set as "Quantity" which has been previously calculated using the "Restock" or "Unstock" button. It's just if view of the calculation result.  The issue that I have with this label, is that when I click on "save" which updates the number of item in my stock, the label keeps showing the number (in yellow on the screenshot), it doesn't disappear after saving.

For the point 2,

I would just like to remain in my current editform of the product I'm editing... When I click save I'm navigating to another product detail. For ex:

1. I'm opening the "HDMI 15m product", I currently have 10 in stock.

2. I add 5 in the quantity text input, then press "Restock" (because I ordered 5 from the vendor)

3. The little preview show me "New Stock: 15" which is correct, then I hit save

4. As soon as I hit save, the HDMI 15m is not the product that I have the lowest amount in stock anymore

5. Automatically the app is showing me another product detail instead of staying on the HDMI 15m that I just edited.

For the point 3,

I think I removed a datacard (the "Stock" one) because I did not want any user to change the number in stock. It has to change from the unstock/restock only... I think this is why my edit form is not working anymore...

Thanks a lot again!

Anthony
