Search / filter in multiple columns

Hello,

I have a working app with indexed columns in which I can search in Title, Airlines, IcaoType.

I my searchbox I want to search Airlines and in Airlines I also want to search/filter on IcaoType

Does anyone know the formula?

Thanks,

René

SortByColumns(

   Filter(

      [@Aircrafts];

      StartsWith(

         Title;

         TextSearchBox1.Text

      ) ||

      StartsWith(

         IcaoType;

         TextSearchBox1.Text

      ) ||

      StartsWith(

         Airlines;

         TextSearchBox1.Text

      )

   );

   "Title";

   If(

      SortDescending1;

      Descending;

      Ascending

   )

)

@Boelebroer

Let's  troubleshoot the issue by rebuilding the app step by step

On a new Screen put a new combobox (ComboBox3) with multiselect false and a gallery below it.

___________

In the combobox items property:

Sort(Distinct([@Aircrafts];IcoaType);Result)

and in the Gallery, put the Items property:

Filter(
      [@Aircrafts];Len(ComboBox3.Selected.Result)=0 ||IcoaType=ComboBox3.Selected.Result
)

Your gallery should now show all the records if the combobox is blank and when you select an IcoaType, the gallery should only show filtered records.

_____________

If the above works, Add another combobox (ComboBox4) to the screen and make it's Items property

Sort(Distinct([@Aircrafts]; Airlines);Result)

Now change the Items property of Combobox3 to

Sort(
    Distinct(
        Filter(
            [@Aircrafts];
            Len(ComboBox4.Selected.Result) = 0|| Airlines=ComboBox4.Selected.Result
        );
        IcoaType
    );
    Result
)

Make sure that Result is showing in the Edit>Fields on the right side of the screen when ComboBox3 is selected.

_8.jpg

The gallery should still show all the items or be filtered by the selection in ComboBox3.  If this is true, then you are ready for the next step.

_________________

Change the Items property of the gallery to:

Filter(
      [@Aircrafts];Len(ComboBox3.Selected.Result)=0 || IcoaType=ComboBox3.Selected.Result;
                   Len(ComboBox4.Selected.Result)=0 || Airlines=ComboBox4.Selected.Result
)

At this point, the gallery should have all records if both comboboxes are blank and should filter when either is selected or if both are selected.  If this is true then the final step should be to add a TextInput box. (TextInput2)

__________

Delete the Default text in the textinput box and change the Items property of the gallery to:

Sort(
  Filter(
        [@Aircrafts];Len(ComboBox3.Selected.Result)=0 || IcoaType=ComboBox3.Selected.Result;
                     Len(ComboBox4.Selected.Result)=0 || Airlines=ComboBox4.Selected.Result;
                     IsBlank(TextInput2.Text) || StartsWith(Title;TextInput2.Text)
   );Title; Ascending
)

Hopefully, you now have a functional app.

Could you please post a screenshot of an example of your list? There may be a better way of doing this.

@Boelebroer

I would suggest using  cascading comboboxes for Airlines and IcaoType and leave a textinput box for the title.

For the Default property of the TextInput Box: ""

For both combobox controls set properties: SelectMultiple to false and  IsSearchable to true.

For Combobox1 Items: Sort(Distinct([@Aircrafts],Airlines),Result, Ascending)

For Combobox2 Items:

Sort(
    Distinct(
        Filter(
             [@Aircrafts],
            Airline = ComboBox1.Selected.Result
        ),
        IcaoType
    ),
    Result, Ascending)
)

For the Items property of the gallery:

Filter(
       [@Aircrafts];TextInput1.Text= "" || StartsWith(Title; TextInput1.Text);
                    Len(ComboBox1.Selected.Result) = 0 || Airline= ComboBox1.Selected.Result;
                    Len(ComboBox2.Selected.Result) = 0 || IcaoType = ComboBox2.Selected.Result
)

Put a button on the field for resetting the controls with the OnSelect property:

Reset(TextInput1);;
Reset(ComboBox1);;
Reset(ComboBox2)

The Items property of the gallery will allow the user to search the database by Title, Airline and IcaoType individually or using all three criteria or any combination of two of them.

Combobox2 will automatically be filtered by the Airline in Combobox1 but if nothing is selected in Combobox1, all of the IcaoTypes will be available for selection.

Thanks for your reply, I will dive into it but I am not an IT guru, so it might take some time to figure out how to implement cascading comboboxes etc.

Hello,

I have added two comboboxes and copied your code.

At the moment I don't see my database yet and I have add some screenshots for you.

In your code I have changed Airline to Airlines, if that is correct.

Thanks

@Boelebroer

It looks like there is a problem with the comboboxes. Please select each one and show the error codes.

@Drrickryp

Getting closer, I see my database again (it was an Airlines / Airline typo error)

Combobox1: Dropdown works but it only filters Airlines who have an aircraft that starts with a NUMBER e.g. 00-0001 but no aircraft with LETTERS are selected e.g. PH-BKA. 00-0001 and PH-BKA are to be found in Sharepoint under Title.

Combobox2: is blank
