Security architecture

Hi all,

 

We are looking to roll out some PowerApps to our student community which will be connecting to a Dynamics data source. All these are members in our AD, but I don't like the idea of giving them a user profile with in our instance as they are non staff. We would like students to login to the apps using their AD credentials and then use a service account - or if possible an application/integration account but I don't think this is possible - to connect to Dynamics. Is there any recommended way to do this? I have seen architectures where they place sharepoint in between the powerapp and dynamics but this adds more moving parts and sounds messy.

 

I should say we plan to deploy a powerapps portal where when a student authenticates, their AD account is associated with their contact record based on on UPN/email. We envisage, students will primarily be accessing powerApps from here.

 

Also, we have an issue in that the students' UPN is their email address so received email becomes an issue on the system where it  resolves to the user record over the contact record as per the sequence for resolution checking.

 

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Are you connecting to a CDS database?  Is the Dynamics source Dynamics CE, BC or FnO? 

Is this a canvas app, model driven app or a Power Apps portal?

Hi there, it's dynamics CE and a canvas app. We also plan to use the customer service powerapps portal but that appears to work differently, using the contact instead.
