Set Value of a hidden column on a SharePoint list within PowerApp

  • I have a PowerApp which has a form to populate a SharePoint list.
  • I have a hidden column on this SharePoint list.
  • I want to populate this hidden column with a value from another column that is not hidden and the user will be populating.

How can I do this? Ideally I would populate it before submitting the form, but I don't have to, I'm not fussed.

Hi @Goochy13

You could put a patch in the OnSuccess property of the form.

Patch(Splist, Form1.LastSubmit, {hiddencolumn: Textinput.Text})

Do you want to populate the hidden column with the current user name?

Could you please tell me that is this hidden column a read-only column generated automatically by SP list?

Combine that with your description, I assume that this hidden column is 'Created By' , you want to modify the user within the 'Created By' with another column value and this unhidden column is populated with a certain user name, right?

If my understanding is correct, I am afraid that there is no way to achieve this currently in PowerApps.

The 'Created By' column is generated automatically by SP list that will be populated with the user who created this record when submitting the form. This kind of column(generated automatically by SP list) is read-only that we could not modify it.

As an alternative solution, I think you could consider creating a new column to achieve this.

I assume that another unhidden is a Person column containing users display name.

Create a Text column and add this field into your form, set its Default property as below:

Note: DataCardValue8 represents the Combo Box corresponding to the unhidden Person column.

This will help you populate it before submitting the form.

If I misunderstand your needs, please feel free to contact me.
