Show error messages for a non-required hyperlink field

Hi All,

I have a field "BRD Supplement Link" defined as "HyperLink" in my SharePoint list.

The issue is that if it is required i see an error.

When it is optional i do not see an error message- how can i make the error message pop-up even if it is not a mandatory field.

Please see what i have at the moment at the visible property of ERROR CONTROL

Also, the Parent card's required property is  dependent on a toggle field and the formula for that is - DataCardValue40_3.Value

@RandyHayes Thanks for going that deep.

I would prefer to not let the user save the form in the last scenario you described above.

Case 1:- When the field "BRD Supplement Link "is mandatory (DataCardValue40_3.Value)

a) User gets to save the form only when he inputs the correct link "https://...BRD...". Otherwise, it should keep on showing error

Case 2:- When the "BRD Supplement Link "is not mandatory (!DataCardValue40_3.Value)

a) User leaves the field blank since it is option. We let him save the form

b) User enters link other than "https://***BRD***". We show him the error until he inputs the correct link per process norms from correct library where files are supposed to be stored

Also, i am sharing all the relevant controls formulas

1) BRD Supplement Link

RequiredDataCardValue40_3.Value || lclOneShot

UpdateIf(!("https://***BRD***" in DataCardValue45_3.Text) && ('BRD Supplement Link_1'.Required || !lclOneShot), DataCardValue45_3.Text)

Error Message

VisibleParent.DisplayMode=DisplayMode.Edit && lclOneShot && !Parent.Valid

I also tried Parent.DisplayMode=DisplayMode.Edit && lclOneShot

VisibleAnd(Parent.Required, Parent.DisplayMode=DisplayMode.Edit)

Hope it helps. From my side- i tried making the control mandatory for all situations and making the star visible only on DataCardValue40_3.Value. And in the UPDATE property i had-

If(Or("https://***BRD***"in DataCardValue45_3.Text,IsBlank(DataCardValue45_3.Text)), DataCardValue45_3.Text)

It worked pretty fine only to realize that it doesn't let me save blank because the field is mandatory even if i am accepting it to be a blank in my Update property.

Thanks a ton!

I think I'm following...

So, change the Required property of the DataCard to:

DataCardValue40_3.Value || !IsBlank(DataCardValue45_3.Text)

Set the Update Property to the following:

If(!IsBlank(DataCardValue45_3.Text) && !("https://***BRD***" in DataCardValue45_3.Text) && Parent.Required, Blank(), DataCardValue45_3.Text)

Let's see if that hits the mark!
