Signature from PenInput into a PDF?

Hi everyone,

im stuck on creating a power automate flow that gets a new sharepoint item (name, date, signature etc) and converts it into a PDF.

I’ve got the conversion to PDF working fine using the Populate a word document / Convert a word document steps.

it’s the signature from the PowerApp penInput I can’t get!

I can see it as an image (thumbnail) in my SP list, but I just can’t get it to convert into a file that gets added to the PDF

HELP!

Surely there has to be a simple way.

so my flow is triggered : when a new Sharepoint item is created.

all Dynamic fields are fine.

help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

That's what i'm asking help on.

The peninput is writing to a SharePoint list column named SIGNATUREIMAGELINK and is displaying content in the SPO list like this (see attached).

@Smorley80 ,

That is not going to work (I am glad you have finally posted that or we would have gone in circles a bit longer) - it refers to an internal Power Apps storage value that is only valid in Power Apps in the current session and cannot be used for anything else. You need to go back to my blog section, use JSON to convert the actual image content and then store that in a multi-line text column, then use base64ToBinary on that field content in the Flow for the OneDrive file content.

thanks for the response. I'm just not understanding your suggestions sorry. I will find a solution somewhere else.

I'm not wanting to use a flow from within powerapps, I would prefer to trigger the flow when i hit SUBMIT as I want to keep a list of items in sharepoint.

@Smorley80 ,

We have now spent 14 items on this thread - I can assure you it can be easily done. The JSON code in my blog can be saved in a Multi-line Text column as you are now, then Base64ToBinary used in the Flow as per the blog applied to that field output rather than CreateFile_FileContent. If you have a go, I am happy to correct it.

@WarrenBelz Mate, I am trying.

What might be easier if you could answer these:

1. Am I best to trigger the flow from within the powerapp? or seperately when a new SPO Item is created?

2. Where do i add that JSON code to convert the pen input image? in the Pen Input? or do i add it to the SUBMIT button. All I have on the ONSELECT of SUBMIT is:

SubmitForm(Form2);
ResetForm(Form2);
Navigate(Success);

Your blog shows using the 'Ask in Powerapps' options, which If possible, I'd prefer not to use as it seems to keep breaking.

@Smorley80 ,

OK - I think we need to regroup here a bit to look at two very different options.

Firstly you need a Premium connector for the Word merge and it is possible using the PowerAppsV2 Flow connector to run with elevated privileges (so you only need one licence), but this is a more complex process, so for the moment we will stick with your current process of using a SharePoint new record.

I am not aware of your current skill level here, so please excuse me if some of this is stating the obvious.

The main thing you need to do here is save the JSON content into your Multi-line Text field - there are several ways of doing this including a Patch, but sticking with your SubmitForm, add this

With(
   {
      wJSON:
      JSON(
         YourPenInput.Image,
         JSONFormat.IncludeBinaryData
      )
   },
   UpdateContext(
      {
         varPen:
         Mid(
            wJSON,
            Find(
               ",",
               wJSON
            ) + 1,
            Len(wJSON) - Find(
               ",",
               wJSON
            ) - 1
         )
      }
   )
);
SubmitForm(Form2);
ResetForm(Form2);
Navigate(Success);

then include your Multiline Text field on the Form (you can hide it) with the Update

varPen

 Now to your Flow - your field name needs to go where highlighted in the Expression

base64ToBinary(triggerOutputs()?['body/YourMultiLineFieldName'])

Please have a go at this - I do literally dozens of these across multiple forms with multiple signatures every day.

Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

THanks Warren, my skill level is beginner / intermediate. I can create apps and have forms submitted etc.. the signature capture has always eluded me.

ok almost there.

The Error I am now getting is:

The file id '/SignTemp.jpg' is not valid.

1. I have added the code you provided to my powerapp ONSELECT .

2. My PENINPUT card updates my multilinetextfield.

2a. My MultilineTextfield , named SIGNATURELINK, has its UPDATE Property set to 'varPen'..   is that correct?

My Flow now looks the same as yours, but am getting this error (attached).

I have tried using a dynamic content for the name.jpg and changed the folder path.

my 'file content expression is:

base64ToBinary(triggerOutputs()?['body/SignatureImageLink'])

My GET FILE CONTENT 'file' is set to PATH from the CREATE FILE 2 action.

@Smorley80 ,

Can you show me your actual Flow - mine runs fine

WarrenBelz_0-1689046914968.png

Also go into your OneDrive and see if the file is there and you can open it.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! It's working!

I was using GET FILE instead of GET FILE CONTENT!

So very grateful @WarrenBelz for your patience, it is very much appreciated!
