Sort Error when new templated app is created

I created my first PowerApp on Saturday. Refined it yesterday and continued to tweak it today. It was near perfect. Then, while I was working on page 3 of a templated app, page one started to show an error, in Sort By Column. Wish I could copy/paste.  But the template uses Address as the StartsWith(Address.   The second "Address"  entry, after TextSearchBox.Text)), is RED and the above message states; "The requested operation is invalid. Server response: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: Title.

I deleted my original app, losing two days worth of work. I have tried creating several test apps using different Sharepoint tables. But each time I use a template, I get the exact same error, although the StartsWith field is always different. My tables appear to be fine. I haven't changed them and I can see them fine in Access. I tried creating an app from scratch and I did not get the above error (it is using Body as the starts with), but I can't create any text fields with my data. I just get errors when I try.

What am I doing wrong? I was so hopeful this morning. Looking at several apps I could create for our company. And now, I can't get past step one.

Guess I didn't try hard enough.

SortByColumns(Filter(TicketTable, StartsWith(Address, TextSearchBox1.Text)), "Address", If(SortDescending1, Descending, Ascending))

Well, tried repeatedly, but can't get the Copy command to come back up in PowerApps for Windows. But the other table uses the field, Field1, with the same error. Also happens with the PowerApps web app. And I already uninstalled/reinstalled PowerApps for Windows.

UPDATE 3:

I simplified things on BrowseScreen1. I don't use search anyway, so now BrowseGallery1 returns, Sort(TicketTable, ApptDate)  , where TicketTable is my Sharepoint table and ApptDate is a field on the table and on screen. I still get ehe rror triangle, and the error message, "The requested operation is invalid. Server response: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: Title.   None of my data or fields are visible on the screen. The TicketTable looks fine. It's an old table that I have been using for over a year. There are only 13 records. And as noted, any table I use from my Sharepoint linked Access application displays the same error when I try to create an app in PowerApps. Is something down at the Sharepoint end? All indicators state that Sharepoint and PowerApps are working fine. This started about 2;30-3:00pm today. Prior to that, no errors.

I reached out to Microsoft in the Office 365 Forums, but they said nothing regarding Sharepoint had changed in the recent update (4/24/17). They said the new features announced for Sharepoint Online were not rolling out till May. I still think some placeholders were added during the update though. As soon as I saved my first PowerApp on Monday afternoon, 4/24/17, I got errors on my first gallery screen that couldn't resolve. PowerApps was looking for a field named Title, which did not exist in my Sharepoint list. I noticed that Sharepoint did add a field, SharePointTitle(Title), but PowerApps could not resolve that.

I tried creating new Sharepoint Lists and they all failed with the same error. Looking for the field Title. In Access, I tried adding the field, Title, to my SharePoint List. But as that field name is reserved, or hidden, Access would not let me add it. Finally in frustration, on Wednesday, 4/26/17, I exported one of my lists from Access (the list was already linked to SharePoint) to SharePoint. Then, a few minutes later I imported the same list back into Access, without making any changes. The list got a _1 extension added to the back of it make it a unique name. When I opened the list, I noticed a new field, Title, had been inserted. I tried creating a PowerApp with this new SharePoint list and it worked, no errors or issues. I then repeated the same steps for the table/list I had used to create my first PowerApp. Worked perfectly. There are now two fields on my field list, SharePointTitle(Title) and Title. Still have no idea what the field is for, but as long as PowerApps is happy, I'm happy.

I created a new SharePoint list on Friday 4/28/17 and it automatically added the Title field, without having to inport/export. Worked fine to create my second PowerApp. All of my old SharePoint Lists don't have the Title field inserted though. I would need to import/export, or delete and recreate to get that field inserted. For now, my problem is solved. Hope it can help any others who stumble across this.

Hi @JimmyS,

Sorry to hear your situation.

would it be convenient for you to share the information about the Title field?

Just from the Error message, this seems to be related with the value range of the Title field.

In addition, which template that you worked with?

Regards,

Michael

I'm not even sure what the Tile field is.

UPDATE: Ok, I found the Title Field. It's listed as SharePointTitle(Title) on each SharePoint list within PowerApps. It's not visible in Access. Nor is this field visible in SharePoint Online. So, no way of telling if it's populated. The other default fields; SharePointCreatedDate & SharePointModifiedDate are also on the list, and they are visible from Access and SharePoint Online, but the fields are generally blank in those tables. Not sure what this field for, or when it was added.

I am using a Sharepoint template. The table is named Pricing. I saved the app as Pricing. I that the Ttile? Note, this error comes up as soon as an app is created, with the default name, App, before I have saved it for the first time.

How do I attach an image. Yesterday I was able to drag one to the screen and drop it into a post. Now I need to provide a source path.

NOTE: I see that Office 365 for Business was updated yesterday. The same resources that manages my Sharepoint lists. This problem started out of the blue yesterday about 2pm. All worked fine since last Friday, when I discovered PowerApps, until 2pm yesterday. Coincidence.

NOTE2: On Saturday night, I saved a version of my app to OneDrive, not realizing that I hadn't saved it to the Cloud. It worked fine when I saved it, although it didn't have all the finishing touches yet. I opened it last night on my home desktop and the exact same error popped up as soon as it opened. I think this is an eronious message related to Sharepoint lists.

NOTE3: I tried creating a new list yesterday using a different Access database and a different Sharepoint path. Same error as soon as PowerApps creates the app, based off of a Sharepoint template. But, as this is happening with my existing app, that I created on Saturday, it's not a bug in the template that was introduced yesterday. It has to be the way Sharepoint lists are now talking to Power APps. Something got broken, or added, that should not have.

I will be happy to post images as soon as I know how. Any help would be appreciated.

Another update. So, I just went into my O360 Business account. Went to my Sharepoint lists. Exported a list to Excel. Copied the file up to my OneDrive for Business. Created a new app in PowerApps, based on the OneDrive Excel file, with the same data as my Sharepoint list. App opened, all my data is visible, NO ERRORS!   The problem has to do with Sharepoint lists talking to PowerApps.

PLEASE, someone look into this.

And my guess is this what got broken yesterday.  From my O325 Business page. Note that the Title can be customized. Still don't know what that is, but that's a part of my error message. Don't know if it matters.

New feature: Modern List and Document Library Web Parts

Published On : April 25, 2017
Expires On : July 31, 2017

The Modern List and Document Library Web Parts are new Office 365 features. You'll begin seeing these new features over the coming weeks.

This message is associated with Office 365 Roadmap ID 83895.
How does this affect me?

The web parts can be added to any modern SharePoint page, allowing users to view and edit files directly from the web part. Any list or document library can be displayed and customized with the users' own title, view, and size choice.

We'll be gradually rolling this out in early May, and the roll out will be completed by the end of June 2017.
What do I need to do to prepare for this change?

There is nothing you need to do to prepare for this change. Please click Additional Information to learn more.

Hi @JimmyS,

Thanks for the updates!

Besides, would it be available for you to share your session ID?

Open PowerApps studio, then open the problematic App, if the issue still insists, then navigate to:

Account->Session Details,

Copy and paste the session ID here, I would forward this to the proper team to take a further investigation.

Michael

Thanks for the reply.

This is what I found under Session Details:  Session ID: 5c6c1ff5-df71-00c1-c590-debd8a11fcd5

Note this is affecting all of the apps I try to create. The app is created with errors from the start. None of my data is visible, although I can refresh my Sharepoint list without issue. I tried creating an app from scratch and I got no errors. But after creating a text field and giving it a name, still no data appears. Although the Sharepoint list appeared to load fine, and when I refresh, no errors.

As noted, I created my first app on Saturday, 4/22/17, and everything worked fine with multiple work sessions, updates and saves, till Monday afternoon, when I saved and got the first triangle error on screen. Since then, I can no longer see any of my data.

I don't know if this is a global issue or only affecting my account. That would be a good place to start. Can someone try to create a PowerApp, using a Sharepoint List with the PowerApp Sharepoint template. If you can see data, and don't get any errors when PowerApps builds the app, then the problem is at my end. That would be really helpful. Right now, I'm swingly blindly at the piniata.

I am really eager to start building apps.

I did find the field, Title. It's on my list of availabe fields, labeled; SharePointTilte (Title). Interestingly, this field is not visible from Access or from SharePoint online while I am looking at the details for a particular SharePoint list. Not sure what this field is for.

Today I tried deleting my SharePoint connect and recreating it. But that didn't change things. It almost appears that PowerApps is allowing me to see Sharepoint lists structures, but it's preventing any data from coming across. Just a guess.

I reached out to Microsoft in the Office 365 Forums, but they said nothing regarding Sharepoint had changed in the recent update (4/24/17). They said the new features announced for Sharepoint Online were not rolling out till May. I still think some placeholders were added during the update though. For now, my problem is solved. Hope it can help any others who stumble across this.

The best way to make sure you know what's going on in the News & Announcements, to blogs you follow, or forums and galleries you're interested in is to subscribe! These subscriptions ensure you receive automated messages about the most recent posts and replies. Even better, there are multiple ways you can subscribe to content and boards in the community! (Please note: if you have created an AAD (Azure Active Directory) account you won't be able to receive e-mail notifications.)   Subscribing to a Category  When you're looking at the entire category, select from the Options drop down and choose Subscribe.     You can then choose to Subscribe to all of the boards or select only the boards you want to receive notifications. When you're satisfied with your choices, click Save.   Subscribing to a Topic You can also subscribe to a single topic by clicking Subscribe from the Options drop down menu, while you are viewing the topic or in the General board overview, respectively.     Subscribing to a Label Find the labels at the bottom left of a post. From a particular post with a label, click on the label to filter by that label. This opens a window containing a list of posts with the label you have selected. Click Subscribe.           Note: You can only subscribe to a label at the board level. If you subscribe to a label named 'Copilot' at board #1, it will not automatically subscribe you to an identically named label at board #2. You will have to subscribe twice, once at each board.   Bookmarks Just like you can subscribe to topics and categories, you can also bookmark topics and boards from the same menus! Simply go to the Topic Options drop down menu to bookmark a topic or the Options drop down to bookmark a board. The difference between subscribing and bookmarking is that subscriptions provide you with notifications, whereas bookmarks provide you a static way of easily accessing your favorite boards from the My subscriptions area.   Managing & Viewing Your Subscriptions & Bookmarks To manage your subscriptions, click on your avatar and select My subscriptions from the drop-down menu.     From the Subscriptions & Notifications tab, you can manage your subscriptions, including your e-mail subscription options, your bookmarks, your notification settings, and your email notification format.     You can see a list of all your subscriptions and bookmarks and choose which ones to delete, either individually or in bulk, by checking multiple boxes.     A Note on Following Friends on Mobile Adding someone as a friend or selecting Follow in the mobile view does not allow you to subscribe to their activity feed. You will merely be able to see your friends’ biography, other personal information, or online status, and send messages more quickly by choosing who to send the message to from a list, as opposed to having to search by username.
