StartScreen conditional with PowerBIIntegration data

I am trying to get a powerapp embedded in a power bi report to open on a particular screen depending on data passed to the app from the power bi report:

If(First([@PowerBIIntegration].Data).count_DBsToApprove = 0, NoApprovalsScreen, ApprovalScreen)

If i just add this as a label, it displays correctly, however has no impact on where the app opens, was wondering if the power bi data is loaded subsequent to the app opening and therefore can't impact the startscreen function.

Hi @doubles1 ,

Your guess is correct. So if the canvas is embedded in PowerBi, I suggest you add a toggle instead of using StartScreen property. The property will be executed before the value is loaded.

Before it's loaded, I guess 'First([@PowerBIIntegration].Data).count_DBsToApprove' is blank.

So you can add a loading screen to wait for the value is loaded.

Sample:

Add a toggle in loading screen.

Toggle's Default property:

If(First([@PowerBIIntegration].Data).count_DBsToApprove = Blank()||IsBlank(First([@PowerBIIntegration].Data).count_DBsToApprove) ,false,true)

Toggle's Oncheck property:

If(First([@PowerBIIntegration].Data).count_DBsToApprove=0,Navigate(NoApprovalsScreen),Navigate(ApprovalsScreen))

Toggle's Visible property:

false

Thank you for the reply and idea, the basic outline solved my problem. Just a note, it seems like powerapps has some difficulty differentiating blank and 0, so i just changed the measure to return a text string.

I know this is an old question with an acceptable answer but I came across this same issue.  Although the accepted solution works okay on the initial load, I could not get this to change the screen when the Power BI Integration changed.  I came up with the following solution and wanted to document it for others with the same goal.  In essence, this solution allows you to have a home screen or landing page when no record is selected and go directly to a record page when a record is selected.

Step 1: Insert a timer control to the HomeScreen (first) screen with the following properties:

Duration = 20

OnTimerEnd = If(
    // check count of number of rows selected
    CountRows(PowerBIIntegration.Data) = 1,
    // if one record is selected
    Navigate(RecordScreen); // navigate to your record screen
    ,
    // if no records (which will often show 1000) is selected
    Navigate(HomeScreen); // navigate to your home screen
);
Set(tempId, Value(First(PowerBIIntegration.Data).Id));  // update the temp id
Set(tempCount, CountRows(PowerBIIntegration.Data)); // update the count of the records selected

Reset = true

Start = tempId <> Value(First(PowerBIIntegration.Data).Id) || tempCount <> CountRows(PowerBIIntegration.Data)

Step 2: Hide the timer and copy this timer to the RecordScreen screen

What will happen is that every time the PowerBIIntegration.Data.Id (or whatever field you're passing to identify a record) is selected, it will start the 20ms timer.  Once the 20ms timer is complete, it will evaluate how many records are selected and go to the appropriate screen and reset the tempId and tempCount to what is currently selected.  This will allow the timer to start again when the record changes.

You must store both the tempId and the tempCount to compare for starting the timer or the condition of the first record selected and no records selected will be the same and not ever trigger the RecordScreen for the first record.

Hello, I am trying to achieve a similar thing. Could anybody please help? I have a canvas app with:

1) page 1 containing gallery1 with 11 columns + 1 input column.

TomEn_0-1697623264860.png

2) page 2 containing gallery2 with 8 columns + 1input column.
TomEn_1-1697623291303.png

Both galleries are connected to the same SQL table.

Via PowerBiIntegration, I am embedding the app into a PBI report with two pages. And I would like to achieve this:
a) Report Page A by default displays page 1 (with gallery1)

b) Report Page B by default displays page 2 (with gallery2)

Is this possible? Both galleries are connected to PBI via the same PowerBiIntegration connection.  I can not pass any parameter into PBI because there's only option to choose the environment and app (no place for parameters or url entry).

Thank you for your help.

Okay, I do have some progress but still not there...  In PBI slicer, I do have a year value of "thisyear" for page1 and "nextyear" for page2. So I am testing this code for app StartScreen property

If(LookUp('SourceSqlTable', Year in [@PowerBIIntegration].Data.Year,Year) = Year(Today()), AppPage1, AppPage2)

Its not working. The problem seems to be the data is loaded after the app is loaded so the lookup function does not work. Would some kind of a delay solve this?

So I have used the solution of @v-xiaochen-msft  and it works as a charm, so thank you @v-xiaochen-msft  for your input.
In case other struggle to do this, the goal is to create a blank first page of your app where you put invisible toggle input with codes on default and oncheck as suggested. This toggle helps to navigate to an app page as you wish. The original idea of using StartScreen does not work because the data is blank before the app is loaded. Therefore the toggle on the first blank page helps to resolve this very efficiently.

Wonderful, thanks a lot!
