Stream Error from within SharePoint - The Request is invalid

"The request is invalid - your browser is not configured properly, preventing us from authenticating you"
We are getting this message within the last few days for embedded videos (SharePoint Online) in Stream on IE 11. This doesn't happen if going directly to Stream on IE 11, and we can open the videos in SharePoint Online on Chrome.
Note: This so far seems to be happening on only Windows 7 Computers, Windows 10 computers (even in IE 11) do not have the issue. The Windows 7 Computers have the 11.0.51 version

Accepted Solutions

It seems as if adding to IE’s list of trusted sites corrects the issue where IE11 on Windows 7 cannot play a video hosted on Office 365’s Stream platform. I want to do some more testing on different devices but I am able to reliably cause and correct this issue by updating the list of trusted sites.

I gave up on stream as Ithink it is not yet compatable so I just put them on YouTube which is

Thanks - not an option for us. Anyone else seen this?

I got the same answer sometime agao.  I believe it not supported at this time

One last point.  You can create a channel on youtube that is only accessable using a link. It is unlisted so external users will not see the videos unless teh have the link.  As you build this into Powerapps even users will not know the URL of the video

This has been working for us with Windows 7 users and IE 11 up until the last couple of days when reports of this error started coming in.

We have used YouTube in the past, and moved all our videos over to Stream to take advantage of our Office 365 tool set. We do not desire to go back to YouTube.

This seems to be an authentication error underneath it all - has anyone else faced this challenge and might have a solution for Stream use with IE 11 and Windows 7?

There's been some changes in IE 11 within the last few months (for example, the IE team changed document mode emulation from IE 10 to IE 11 and this has stopped web parts from being moved around on classic SharePoint Online sites) - and I'm wondering if this may be another change that has inadvertently affected the authentication within SharePoint Online for Stream videos.

Or perhaps something else?

Much appreciate your help.

Precisely the same issue noted here with Windows 7 machines with IE11 accessing embedded Stream video on a modern Office 365 Group SharePoint page. Ironically, it works fine in Chrome but the corporate image sets IE as the default  browser. Asking thousands of users to download and open link in Chrome is not really an option.

I've just begun to think about use cases for Stream so a complete inability to integrate with existing Office 365 SharePoint sites is not very confidence inspiring to say the least... hoping to hear some feedback on this. I just talked up Stream as an alternative to media hosting platforms in use currently (when will I learn...) and now one of the most basic features seems not to work properly.

Thanks for the response - it helps to know that it is not just our environment. Interestingly, Edge does not work with Stream on Windows 7 within SharePoint either. Only Chrome.

Not applicable

Thanks for this response. We are having a look at adding the Stream URL into the Trusted Sites for our IE 11 Windows 7 GPO. Note that Stream viewing from embedded links in SharePoint Online works just fine from within and without the network in Windows 10. It's IE 11 on Windows 7 that doesn't work within SharePoint Online.
