The Lookup service call failed: An error occurred on the server

Hello

My next issue is the following:

Im having a lookup field called Code --> this is a lookup to a different SharePoint list.

What it does is, fill in all the other fields that are linked to it.

The problem is that when i start in Studio for windows it doesn't load anything:

Keeps_Loading.PNG

Then I looked on the app and it said:

The lookup service call failed: An error occurred on the server.

Then I looked a bit deeper and opened it on the web studio and found out this when I try the Lookup field:

AI_Error.PNG

 So apparently the string is to long to get it in the lookup.

Is there any solution for this?

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards

Tom

Hi @Tom_Slosse,

Could you please share about the Submit formula?

If you used the Editform to submit data, then I am afraid to display the value automatically within the Textinput Box is not available.

It is available to show the related data with Textbox, with the text property set to the formular below:

First(Search(Broodjes, Dropdown1.Selected.Value, "Code")).Correspondingcolumn

If you would like to just show the data, then this is possible.

For saving it, we may need to use patch fucntion.

Hi @Tom_Slosse

Sorry but I am not sure of the purpose of your string of >1024 characters, could you please clarify?

@Meneghino

I have no idea either were it that too long string comes from.

The thing that I can clarify is maybe how it works in SharePoint:

So i have a list 'Broodjes' where all the sandwiches are stored with code, name, price, etc

And i have a list called My Lunch were i have a lookup field called Code who refers to the code in 'Broodjes'

'Broodjes' Code'Broodjes' CodeMyLunch Code fieldMyLunch Code field

If that was ready I made a PowerApp from the MyLunch List but there I couldn't use the Lookup field Code due to that error.

And I literally have no idea where that AI error comes from.

Thank you. What is a typical code?  How many characters does it have?

@Meneghino

Each sandwich has his own 4 digit 'code'. e.g. 2021

But its represented as a single line of text in the list 'Broodjes'.

Maybe it is the Odata string that is too long.

Kind regards

@Tom_Slosse

Are you using forms?  If not, then what is the Items property of your dropdown control? What is its Default value?

I would think you only need the Odata string if you are Patching back to the data source.

I would like to see if I can reproduce your issue.

@Meneghino

I'm fairly new to SharePoint and PowerApps so I'm still finding my way through.

So if I understand properly what you mean with the default value.

Then it should be this in PowerApps:

Hi @Tom_Slosse,

How many items under your "Broodjes" list?

Please take a try to use this dropdown control as a "search" box, input part of special code first, see fi that would make the dropdown showing up with some value.

I created a sample App with two lists, within 10 items each, and didn't encounter the error you mentioned.

Further, please share about your Session ID, under (File->)Account->Diagnostics->Session Details.

@v-micsh-msft

There are currently roughly 30 items in the 'Broodjes' list.

Hi guys

I looked through my 'Broodjes' list and found out that there were some codes missing.

I deleted those items and the lookup works fine now.

It is showing all the 24 items

Kind regards
