Trouble populating my powerapp gallery data to my Sharepoint List

Hi there

Hoping someone can assist me.

I'm VERY new to PowerApps and just teaching myself as I go.

My PowerApps data is not populating my SharePoint list at all. It is connected as I can see the 3 little marks suggesting a new row is loading and clicking on details shows the row number has increased but nothing is displayed.

What could be causing this?

Any assistance would be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for replying to my post @Anonymous. Really appreciate it.

I'm that new to PowerApps that I didn't even know that tool section existed!

hmmm, not much happened at all I'm afraid.

Problem is, I keep searching the internet for help and then change my code and then go backwards or around in circles!

I really wanted to achieve this and have a tight deadline by Monday but don't think it's going to happen.

I was told that the barcode reader can only display data in a gallery/table and to use a collection to save and use it throughout the app. However, it doesn't display.

My barcode is a QR code with 3 bits of info that I need to extract and save in separate columns of a SharePoint list. However, nothing is making its way to my sharepoint list. It seems to add a new row but with no data attached but my recent attempts have resulted in the following...

Would love to know your thoughts.

sorry to hear...since it shows Untitled, it almost seems like something is there...and you saved the output to a collection? Something like clearcollect,colnm,<Bar code  data>) (you can put that on a button's OnSelect....you should then be able to see what's in the collection. Maybe it's just a matter of figuring out the contents and the value names. Once broken out...you should be able to patch to SP.

Sounds interesting, but since I don't have one I can't play to try it myself. Wonder if it can be faked to test...

@Anonymous are you able to tell me how you would define the collection in a powerapp? I think there's a gap here.

I was advised to refer to it in the app Onstart property, which I did, but is this enough for my Barcodereader1 Onscan process to know to save it in the collection?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that's the issue...if I understand you correctly. In the OnStart you are initializing the collection, but when you can you need to Collect the data into the collection. I don't know what's returned to help more with examples but I found this page https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/canvas-apps/how-to/create-app-barcode-scanner I looked only briefly but it seems to give step by step what to do. It shows what to put in the OnScan to collect the data...see if this helps.

Thanks @Anonymous, it was good to go back a few steps and test the basics. I created a new scan button & gallery on my screen to try a few things. The difference for me is the QR code has 3 pieces of info that needs to be separated. It's format is:

{"id":"da87ae70-ad87-44e7-8c69-9b89916b****","name":"John Doe","phone":"04********"}

I have the following:

Set(BarcodeReader1_Value, true);
Set(parsed,
Substitute(
Substitute(BarcodeReader1_Value, "\n", ""),
"\", ""
)
);
Set(fields, ForAll(Split(parsed, ":"), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}));
Set(id_value, Substitute(Index(fields,2).Result, """", ""));
Set(name_value, Substitute(Index(fields,3).Result, """", ""));
Set(phone_value, Substitute(Substitute(Index(fields,4).Result, "}", ""), """", ""));

Set(customerID, Index(ForAll(Split(id_value, ","), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}), 1).Result);
Set(customerName, Index(ForAll(Split(name_value, ","), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}), 1).Result);
Set(customerPhone, phone_value);

This apparently will remove all the characters etc but now I'm stuck!

ok, so it seems you have parsed everything....have you tried checking to see if those variables have the information you expect? You can do that by using the tools or simply with text labels on the screen.

If everything looks good, you could change to collect it all into a collection instead of in a bunch of variables. Then each time you scan it would be collected and you could see it in your gallery (the collection name would go in Items).

You could try changing some of your above code to something like:

Collect(barCodeCol,
 {
   customerID: Index(ForAll(Split(id_value, ","), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}), 1).Result),
  customerName: Index(ForAll(Split(name_value, ","), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}), 1).Result),
  customerPhone: phone_value)
 }
)

Then put barCodeCol in your gallery's Items. Then labels in the gallery for ThisItem.customerID, ThisItem.customerName, and ThisItem.customerPhone.  Everything then you scan should show on screen. Then you can add a button to Patch your data to SharePoint or whatever you want it stored in.

Thanks @Anonymous. Appreciate your reply.

Would you suggest I change just the bottom section or more?

I tried the below and still nothing in my gallery for these 3 items.

Set(BarcodeReader1_Value, true);
Set(parsed,
Substitute(
Substitute(BarcodeReader1_Value, "\n", ""),
"\", ""
)
);
Set(fields, ForAll(Split(parsed, ":"), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}));
Set(id_value, Substitute(Index(fields,2).Result, """", ""));
Set(name_value, Substitute(Index(fields,3).Result, """", ""));
Set(phone_value, Substitute(Substitute(Index(fields,4).Result, "}", ""), """", ""));

Collect(barCodeCol,
{
customerId: Index(ForAll(Split(id_value, ","), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}), 1).Result,
customerName: Index(ForAll(Split(name_value, ","), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}), 1).Result,
customerPhone: phone_value
}
)

Thanks ever so much.

let's try stepping back a little....

put three labels on your screen for ID, Name, Phone...and put the above parts for ID, Name, Phone (so - Index(ForAll(Split(id_value, ","), {Result: ThisRecord.Value}), 1).Result - as the Text for ID) and see if you see anything there....one would hope you will see something. IF so, then I think your gallery is setup wrong.

Did you look at the collection? For example, I was looking at one of my collection in this screen shot:

leeguth_0-1697469401878.png

this let me make sure I'm getting what I think in there and to verify the column names the gallery will use to output the records.

If the labels don't show anything, view the variables in the set statements (might need to View like my screen shot)....they may need to be collections though. I think you need to go step by step and try viewing each thing as you go. once you get one, the rest will follow more easily. 🙂

Hey @Anonymous

Thanks once again for replying. Really appreciate it.

I tried adding the labels as you suggested but received the following message:

SM17_0-1697474746240.png

Hence nothing appeared.

 My new collection is shown below:

collection.PNG

Clearly I have something wrong in my workings 😬

I've been looking at the variables but there are so many it's very confusing!!

ok, so the error you got may be an issue...

-

look at: id_value, name_value, and phone_value....see what's in them and see if it makes any sense. If those 'look' ok, then it is the next ones (the error) trying to get the last values....

can you post what you see in 'parsed'? If so, maybe I can dummy it up to try.
