Trouble populating my powerapp gallery data to my Sharepoint List

Hi there

Hoping someone can assist me.

I'm VERY new to PowerApps and just teaching myself as I go.

My PowerApps data is not populating my SharePoint list at all. It is connected as I can see the 3 little marks suggesting a new row is loading and clicking on details shows the row number has increased but nothing is displayed.

What could be causing this?

Any assistance would be so greatly appreciated.

this video may help you... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMqYjOpRbRg I watched it and it should give you a better head start.  I think it will at least get you to breaking the scan up....I may try it too. 🙂

I watched a few videos on this and may have a better idea of where you're going wrong - hopefully.

From what I've seen, your reader will give you a collection with the type of code and the value. What I am going to assume, based on what you were doing above, your value will contain three things - id, name, email - separated by line breaks. To get those individual pieces, you want to split them looking for the line break. I'm then thinking you want to write those three things to a SharePoint list.

To split, you'll do something like I did here - I was splitting a textfield for either a semicolon or tab and there could be multiple lines so those were split by line breaks. If your fields are only split by the line feed, then you only need the top part and not the part that is looking for a tab or semicolon. ...change importText.Text to your reader.Value.

Then you want to put it into a form to patch to SP, by grabbing the right pieces...

ClearCollect(
    impcol2,
    ForAll(
        Filter(
            Split(
                importText.Text,
                Char(10)
            ),
            Value <> ""
        ),
        {
            ID: First(
                Split(
                    Value,
                    If(impdelimRadio.Selected.Value = "Semicolon",";",Char(09))
                )
            ).Value,
            Name: Last(
                FirstN(
                    Split(
                        Value,
                        If(impdelimRadio.Selected.Value = "Semicolon",";",Char(09))
                    ),
                    2
                ).Value
            ).Value,
            Email: Last(
                FirstN(
                    Split(
                        Value,
                        If(impdelimRadio.Selected.Value = "Semicolon",";",Char(09))
                    ),
                    3
                ).Value
            ).Value
        }
    )
)

I cut stuff in my example, so hopefully I have my brackets lined up. If you look at this collection, it should have your values. then you can patch it to SP.  This does a ClearCollect, so each time you scan it will only have that scan's information.  Put this in the OnScan....

You can see if it's working by making a small gallery with the collection above as the Items and with three text labels for ThisItem.ID, ThisItem.Name, ThisItem.Email and if all parsed right, you should see them.

You may want to put a brand new bar reader on your screen to make sure it's 'clean' from all you were trying before.

I'm sorry if it seemed like I was sending you down a hole, but after I watched a few videos I figured out better what you were trying to do...I think. I couldn't make one with my phone so I could be off a little, but should be closer.

Wow you are amazing @Anonymous 👏

Thanks so much for looking into it further for me.

I'm excited to try it out.

It's 5:12am here and I haven't been to sleep yet so I'll give it a go in a few hours.

Thanks again and I'll let you know how I go.

G'day @Anonymous

What does the following refer to?

impdelimRadio.Selected.Value

Also, will your code work in the following steps:

  • Scan QR code with 3 pieces of data
  • Save as a collection
  • Review data in a gallery on the next screen (Here the 3 items need to be displayed on 3 different lines of the gallery)
  • Then the gallery (including 6 other pieces of user selected information) are saved in SP list.

So far, I'm doing something wrong still....

As I mentioned, I was splitting not only on line breaks, but also I was either splitting on a semicolon or tab, but the user chose which. If your fields are split only by line break, you don't need that, but if there is some other character (for example a comma), switch it to ",".

I could not scan a QR code to see what comes into the <yourReader>.Barcodes You can do that (if you haven't already) to see the Value - add a vertical gallery with title and subtitle and put <yourReader>.Barcodes in the Items property..it will show you what it is getting.

It does save to collection - that's the name after ClearCollect...you would put that in the items of another gallery.

I would put two on the screen (galleries) for now for helping to debug...

You would probably add a button for saving to SP.

ok, I somewhat dummy'd it up. I don't have a reader so, I put your code format above in as a text entry field. Since I can't scan I added a 'split' button on the screen, but if when you scan your QR code, the Value looks exactly as above (with the " (quotes), this code should split it into a collection with 3 values. If the Value does not come back this way in the barcodereader.Barcodes then you may need to tweak it. You would replace 'TextInput1.Text' with ThisItem.Value in the OnScan event.

ClearCollect(
    fieldsplit,
    ForAll(
        Filter(
            Split(
                TextInput1.Text,
                Char(10)
            ),
            Value <> ""
        ),
        {
            ID: Last(
                FirstN(
                    Split(
                        Value,
                        Char(34)
                    ),
                    4
                ).Value
            ).Value,
            Name: Last(
                FirstN(
                    Split(
                        Value,
                        Char(34)
                    ),
                    8
                ).Value
            ).Value,
            Phone: Last(
                FirstN(
                    Split(
                        Value,
                        Char(34)
                    ),
                    12
                ).Value
            ).Value
        }
    )
)

This is what it looks like after the above in the collection:

leeguth_0-1697671960586.png

If you put two galleries on your screen - one showing the barcodereader.Barcodes, and on showing the collection from the split (fieldsplit in my example above), you should see what was scanned and then split.

this shows what it looked like (the barcode gallery is the sample they provide)

As for other fields and writing to SP, you will probably need a button to Save/Submit which would patch all values to SP.

Hopefully, this helps. Good Luck!

You are absolutely amazing @Anonymous 🌟

Thanks for everything!!!

Regarding...

You would replace 'TextInput1.Text' with ThisItem.Value in the OnScan event.

Sorry but everything I try to put in place of TextInput1.Text gives me a red error line.

Is there something else I need to define somewhere?

Please disregard @Anonymous ...I may have progressed 🤞

hmmm not so successful I'm afraid @Anonymous

One gallery is showing the data as it is scanned but the other gallery is not showing it split.

The TextInput1.Text section does appear to be my issue. I have tried so many different things but the red error line unfortunately remains 😞

I will continue to try different things 😊
