Understanding Delegation

HI Everyone,

Just a simple question, nothing serious. I am still trying to get my mind around delegation. I have most of the help documents, but still not understanding why I would get a warning on something like this:

Filter(
'Daily Reports',
'Report Date' = Today() - 1
)

Daily reports does have 100's of records, but I a filtering to a select number of records. My understand this should work on a large data set. Am I wrong?

Hi @JasonF

If your data set is SharePoint, please see this article. https://officepoweruser.com/sharepoint-date-delegation-in-power-apps/

Re: Understanding Delegation

Whether that works or not depends on several things.

1) It would depend on the data source you are using.  Comparisons with Date fields are not delegable in SharePoint and also have issues in SQL.  Today() resolves to a date

2) Calculations inside a filter statement will also often cause a delegation issue.  You should do the calculation first and use a variable to store the results.

3) Dates are actually a combination of Date and Time in most data sources.  That includes Date/time fields in SharePoint that are set to date only. So doing an '=' comparison rarely works because even if the date is the same the time is not.

In general CDS is about the only place you will get dates to work in a filter statement and even then I don't think you can delegate a calculation.

Re: Understanding Delegation

I am using CDS tables. I will try putting this into a variable and see how this works.
