Uploading pictures to Share Point

Please help!

I have been watching videos on how to to this, but is a little bit complex. Could someone point me in the right direction?

I have several pictures in my collection and I would like to submit those pictures to my share point folder/library and at the same time I would like to patch my sharepoint list with all of the metadata associate with that picture.

And also I would like to see in my sharepoint list a column with the picture and the rest of the data.

Thank you in advance for any help

@sajarac

Yes, that is the best choice (IMHO)

So then your flow needs to do the following things:

1) Take in a JSON parameter that has the image(s) and the metadata (good link to review here).

2) In the flow - a Step to Create File in your document library (You will need the FileName and the Base64ToBinary of your content)

3) Next step is "Update File Properties" step - here you use the ItemId from the Create Step as the Id for this step.  And here you should see all of your metadata columns...you can assign the properties from what you parsed from the JSON payload.

I would stick with a one at a time approach first and get that working, and then come back after and get it to loop over all of the records in your JSON.

@sajarac

Can you describe more about where you are getting stuck?  The process of doing this is pretty well blogged and referenced.

In general, you'll get your pictures together and send through PowerAutomate to have it add to the Library.

Thank you very much for your prompt response.

That is the problem I have been reading many post and I am lost.

OK, I have the pictures in my gallery, now I need to create a flow right?

now for the flow action is send pictures to share point.

Now I dont want nothing base64 I would like jpg files.

so in the same flow I can save the pictures in the gallery and create records in my share point list one per picture with the data associate to my picture. and then have the flow to update the list a specific column with the picture thumbnail?

How? I have the idea but I don't know exactly.

Sorry

😞

@sajarac

No worries - I know it can be a little confusing at first.

So, you will need to convert base64 to binary for your SharePoint Library, so there will be a conversion needed.

I would recommend the  video by Shane Young on one approach to this to start with if you've not seen it.

He outlines a quick way to get your files and then to send them to PowerAutomate and then into the Library.

Take a look over that and then see if you have any questions and we can pick it up from there.

Thank you,

But that one is for a single image no?

I need to upload a collection and that could be 10,20....40 pictures plus the metadata.

that is the part that I don't get it

@sajarac

Yes, most of the examples you will find will be based on a single transaction.

I would suggest getting that to work properly first (to gain the experience of it) and then consider how to branch to do more.

You could always loop through each item in your collection and then call the flow on each item.

OR

Change the flow to accommodate a payload of data.

Basically, you will need to build a collection in PowerApps with all the information you want, then JSON it in order to send a full payload of data (any amount) to PowerAutomate.  In that flow, you will then loop through each record in your JSON payload and create the Library item, then then update the metadata.

So, give the single a try first so you have the mechanism down.  Then tackle the PowerApps loop or converting to a payload for the flow.

OK, thanks to your help I have the first part done.

I am able now to upload into my Sharepoint Library all of the files at once using flow.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Now the second part.

I would like to patch at the same time my SP list with the other data and update the column photo with the photo hyperlink.

🙂

@sajarac

So first - is this a Library or a List in SharePoint?

I ask because I am not sure what the purpose of the Photo column is for and what you want to put in there.

Were you able to update the File metadata in your flow?  That is an important step if you have it to put in there.

Hi.

I have in my app the following:

A collection of photos

Each photo has an inspectionID, plus other fields such as Latitude, Longitude, etc.

I was able to SAVE all the photos in my collection to the Documents folder in my Share point site via flow.

But I would like to save the rest of the information also.

I thought that the pictures goes to the folder and the data to a share point list, is this correct ?

That is what I am trying to achieve.

@sajarac

Well, there are a couple of ways to go about this:

1) A Document Library in SharePoint to hold the Photos (no metadata associated with them).  And then a separate List that would have the metadata and a column to reference the photo in the Document Library (by ID or link)

-OR-

2) A Document Library in SharePoint that holds the Photos and also the metadata (i.e. custom columns).

Personal preference is #2 because then you keep metadata with the file rather than separated.

Let me know which way you are going.
