Where the reference of a canvas application gets stored?

Dear all,

As per my understanding on the PowerApps, we can create PowerApps in two ways. 1. Direct Subscription 2. Thru Dynamics 365

Here I have a doubt, on a canvas app gets stored in an enviroment?

Scenario 1:

If we go with Direct Subscription and Without CDS: Where the reference of a canvas app that we create gets stored?

Scenario 2:

If we go with Direct Subscription and With CDS: In this case if we create a canvas app within a solution a component of Canvas App gets created. But what happen in case if I haven't created canvas app within a solution? I mean where that canvas app really gets stored?

Scenario 3:

If we go with D365 Subscription: Where the reference of a canvas app that we create gets stored?

All the canvas apps that we create (without CDS and Solution unaware) gets stored some way in CDS though we dont have a CDS created in that Enviornment, where Microsoft Manages that for its reference purpose?

Thank You,

Sai Krishna.

Re: Where the reference of a canvas application gets stored?

Hi Sai,

With all license options, when you click File > Save (The Cloud), this saves your app to cloud storage that's associated with your tennent. This file storage location is not the same as the CDS, so I think this is where the confusion arises.

Does that clarify things a bit for you?

Re: Where the reference of a canvas application gets stored?

Hi @krishnags ,

I agree with @timl 's thought almost. The canvas app you created within your PowerApps is actually stored within your PowerApps environment (Dynamics 365 Environment Instance), which is bound to a specific geographic location.

Please check the following article for more details:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/regions-overview#what-features-are-specific-to...

More details about regions supported in PowerApps and PowerApps Environment, please check the following articles:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/regions-overview#what-features-are-specific-to...

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/environments-overview

Note: Regardless of weather you created your canvas app in your PowerApps environment directly or create an app within a Solution, the created app would be deployed in datacenters in that geographic location related to your PowerApps environment.

Re: Where the reference of a canvas application gets stored?

@v-xida-msft yeah I agree with you. Usually when we have a CDS and creates an app with in it, automatically the reference of the app gets stored in CDS right (though all of these components are stored in the environment). In case of not having CDS and we create an app, in that case as you mentioned it gets stored in environment too right...

Why I am stressing on this is, there was discussion happened between myself and my friend, that he says when we create an app regardless of solution aware or unaware the app reference gets stored in CDS (if we have a CDS it reference to that, otherwise MS maps that reference to a CDS which would be maintained internally for storing purpose). But I am confident that everything gets stored in side an environment where it has a CDS or not..
