Hi @Tejaswini1234

If you want to reset the textInput control when a different dropdown item is selected you can use the below expression:

Dropdown Control -> OnChange -> Reset(DataCardValue23)

Here, DataCardValue23 refers to the name of text input control inside the edit form. This will reset the control to its default value.

In case you are editing existing item in your sharepoint list, this will default to Parent.Default value. To update this scenario, you can use below expressions:

Dropdown Control -> OnChange -> Set(TextBoxValue,Blank())
TextInput -> Default -> If(IsBlank(TextBoxValue),Blank(),Parent.Default)

Here, this will clear the text box.

Hope this Helps!

I have used combo box and drop down list , combo box values filtered by drop down list item selected,

combo box defaultselecteditem is set to

If(IsBlank(textbox),Blank(),

{
'@odata.type':"#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedReference",
Value: ThisItem.'Vendors Name'
}
)

and onchange of dropdownlist:

Reset(ComboBox2);Set(textbox,Blank())

In edit form ,while drop down item changes , combo box value does not change.

in edit form,when dropdown item changes, combobox default selected item is not blank.

Very simple but great solution. !! Thanks @Tejaswini1234 for sharing !!

I had a similar scenario to the OP. I wanted to clear a textbox if a value in a dropdown was deselected.

I would test the dropdown to see if it had "Performance Award" selected, among its various possible Award Types, for example. If it did, I would have a textbox appear to capture a monetary amount that the award would be. If they fill in that textbox, save the item to the SharePoint list, then change their mind later and remove "Performance Award" from the dropdown selection, the textbox would retain the value they had previously saved, leading to confusion and affecting the total monetary award later in the form. Since the visibility of that textbox is controlled by the dropdown, they could not clear the value manually (unless you go to grid view on the list, itself...). I had set a "PerformanceAward" variable in the OnChange of the dropdown in order to tell if the "Performance Award" value remains there or not.

If I try

If (PerformanceAward = false, Set(txtPerfAward, Blank()));

later on in the same OnChange of the dropdown to test that boolean value and set my control to blank if false, "txtPerfAward" (my textbox) gets an error on it: "Unexpected characters. The formula contains 'Control' where 'Ident' is expected." And I would not want to simply reset the textbox control - it would just go back to the value it had from the previous save, which I want to clear.

Solution: Instead of trying to clear the textbox from the OnChange of the dropdown directly, instead, I'm just doing it via the "PerformanceAward" boolean I'm setting there, and so I do it indirectly. In the Textbox Default:

If(PerformanceAward = true, Parent.Default, "")

This works to clear the box if it's false. I tested it clearing the box by setting both results to "" and it blanks it if "Performance Award" was in the dropdown, so I know it will blank it if it is not. I got the value again when I put Parent.Default back in there, like it is, above. So this works.

Caveat: There would have been an issue with this method because I set the variable in my App's OnStart to false. Except I'm hiding these controls based on a Boolean a button sets, and I have that button show these controls as a kind of toggle PanelBar across the form, and OnSelect of that button I set the Boolean to true for the form controls' visibility (or back to false, if that Boolean is true, to hide them again), and it then checks what the dropdown has - basically doing everything that was in my OnChange of the dropdown and setting my Booleans for my various type of awards, again. So when the textbox controls are shown, they can grab their "Parent.Default" value if the dropdown has their value, because they check their Booleans and set Parent.Default if true. Otherwise, they would have come in blank. Anyone using this method would have to set up something similar, which would do the same Boolean checks/setting for the dropdown values prior to the controls appearing:

// Set Performance Award field visibility
If (CountRows(Filter(cmbMonetaryAwards.SelectedItems, Value="Performance Award")) > 0,
Set(PerformanceAward, true),
Set(PerformanceAward, false)
);

My own commentary: This is why it is very annoying that "SharePointForm1" (the form) does not have an onload event. I know that FormScreen has an "OnVisible", but it doesn't work to pre-load controls as it doesn't have the SharePointForm's context. We shouldn't have to use tricks to load our values correctly by of setting Default values based on booleans. We should be able to set them directly, like in other languages:

If (cmbAwardTypes.SelectedItems.IndexOf("Performance Award") = -1) { txtPerfAward.Text = ""; }

But, of course, this doesn't work. Only the other way does. 😞
