how to do a join in connection or data source

To evaluate Dynamics and PowerApps our plan is to create model and canvas apps for the same requirements and compare. The model app went alright and only one thing was not possible. But i'm having difficulty duplicating the same capability in a canvas app.

There is an entitiy named "Pharmacy Contacts" which has a lookup field for the entity "Facilities". When the view for Pharmacy Contacts is used in the model app, it renders the Facility name, which is an obvious one to many join. In the canvas app I can add a table display, the table display needs a connection, and for the connection a table must be chosen. I see no way to do a join. I can display the Facility foreign key, but not the facility name. How can this be done?

Not only would I like to know how, I want to complain that the way to accomplish what I want is not intuitive and easily available.

Re: how to do a join in connection or data source

Hi @dmcdivitt,

You would do it with a lookup function.  Lookup(Pharmacy contacts,ID = FacilityID, Faciility Name).  The syntax is LookUp( Table, Formula [, ReductionFormula ] ).  The  Lookup function returns a record by default.  The reduction formula returns the column value in the record.

Hi @dmcdivitt,

Please review the following article for the Lookup usage in PowerApps:

Additionally, for the table and records in PowerApps, see:

Thanks. I don't know where or how to use the lookup function, but will figure out. What you provided shows it's possible.
