patch on submit form is not working

I am trying a patch a value from a dropdown to a text field in SP list after the form submit, for somereason it doesn't work.

Formula on OnSelect of the button "SubmitForm(OrdForm);"

 

Formula onSuccess of the form is as below:

 

Refresh(Req);

Patch(
Req,
OrdForm.LastSubmit,
{
'CostCenter1': Value(Dropdown.Selected.Value)
}
);

 

Your help is really appreciated..!

Hi @issac_franklin 

The reason for my earlier question is that on a successful form submission, SubmitForm clears the form contents so that's the reason why your Patch code isn't able to reference the dropdown value. LastSubmit won't contain the value because it's a value that you haven't submitted.

The answer is to persist the value in a variable. The button click formula would look like this:

UpdateContext({lastCostCenterVal:Value(Dropdown.Selected.Value)});
SubmitForm(OrdForm);

You would then modify your OnSuccess/Patch formula like so:

Refresh(Req);
Patch(
Req,
OrdForm.LastSubmit,
{
'CostCenter1': lastCostCenterVal
}
);

Where is your Dropdown control? Is it contained within a card in OrdForm?

have you tried Dropdown.Selected.Value

without wrapping it into Value()

Yes, it's contained within the card in the form. Attached the snip below for reference

Yes, I did try that as well. But no luck 😞

If I lookup on monitor, this is what I find. I don't know why the value is null there. Although the dropdown has a value associated to it either by condition or being selected manually

after you submit the form you have to get the values from the lastSubmit record because the form doesn't that form will be cleared after the submit action
try with 'CostCenter1': OrdForm.LastSubmit.CostCenter (or whatever the field is named)

I just tried the below and it's same, where the value is null

Patch(Req,
OrdForm.LastSubmit,
{
CostCenter1:OrdForm.LastSubmit.CostCenter.Value
}
);

 

And then I tried to use the below formula, and now it creates the additional row

Refresh(Req);

Patch(Req,
{
CostCenter1:OrdForm.LastSubmit.CostCenter.Value
}
);

Hey

Thanks for the input.

I tried as same as you have suggested and when submitting the form, it thrown me an error as "The value "test" cannot be converted to a number Powerapps". Then as per the suggestion from an article, I have disabled the "Formula-level error management" from settings-> Upcoming features.

Now, when I try to submit, I don't have the error, but it creates duplicate row and it doesn't update the value of the variable 😞

Super User of the Month | Ahmed Salih

We're thrilled to announce that Ahmed Salih is our Super User of the Month for April 2024.
