show item with associated list id

Hello,

I have an app that has a gallery inside of a gallery. The data source for Gallery1 is a document library and for the Gallery2 it's a custom workflow task list. I have a flow that creates a new item in the workflow task list any time the flow is run and updates some of the columns throughout the life of the flow for ease of tracking. I have a "Process Document ID" column in the workflow task list which I set to the value of the List Item ID returned from the "Get File Properties" action. What I am struggling with is how to filter the items returned in Gallery2 to only show items when the "Process Document ID" is equal to the "List Item ID" of the selected gallery item.  My formula as of now is:

Filter('Process Document Flow Tasks','Process Document ID'.Value= Gallery1.Selected.ListIDValue)

The "ListIDValue" is a label that I created and assigned a text value of "ThisItem.AssociatedListID". Thank you for any help!

Hey @CarlHRVA try this:

Filter( 'Process Document Flow Tasks', 'Process Document ID' = ThisItem.AssociatedListID )

Apologies for the formatting; I am away from a computer and on my phone. The message about using scope just means that it can’t show a result in the area below where you enter the code. Normally, it will preview the result of the code where your cursor is which is handy for debugging or verifying your code. But when the preview would result in a table of results or a different result for each row of a gallery, you get that message.

Regarding the code above, the issue was likely the .Value on the end of 'Process Document ID'. I should have caught that earlier. In those filter statements, you just need to reference the column you are filtering in and then a value to find in that column. The .Value would imply that there is a table in each row of the 'Process Document ID' column, so Power Apps would try to drill down a level but not be able to. I hope that explanation makes sense!

Using ID is likely referencing the row ID of the table (or primary key) whereas it seems you want the referenced ID (or foreign key) in 'Process Document ID'. Assuming I am understanding correctly that is.

Let me know if that fairs any better for you! We’ll get this sorted yet!

Hi @CarlHRVA, I may not be tracking fully with your issue but it sounds to me that you are trying to filter a nested gallery by the value in a label in the parent gallery. I think that you can get by without referencing the label by doing the following:

Filter(
    'Process Document Flow Tasks',
    'Process Document ID'.Value = ThisItem.AssociatedListID
)

This should do the trick as the "ThisItem" will be referencing the parent gallery. If the types don't match, you can do something like this:

Filter(
    'Process Document Flow Tasks',
    'Process Document ID'.Value = Value(ThisItem.AssociatedListID)
)

In this example, I am assuming that AssociatedListID is text and wrapping it in a Value function to make it a number.

If for some reason you just need to reference the label, I believe it would look something like:

Filter(
    'Process Document Flow Tasks',
    'Process Document ID'.Value = Value(ListIDValue.Text)
)

 Feel free to let me know if any of those work or don't; I'm happy to follow up if needed!

@wyotim Thank you so much for the thoughtful response. Unfortunately none of those seem to work for me. Does it matter that my 'Process Document ID' column in SharePoint is a number column? Another thing, when I have the label in Gallery1 set to ThisItem.AssociatedListID, it returns a blank value. If I change it to .ID, it returns something more like what I would expect. However, I get errors like this for each of the formulas, no matter if I use .ID or .AssociatedListID. Is there anymore info that I am leaving out that may be important? Thank you so much for your help!

Saw this response in another thread about the error. Thing is, the 'Process Document ID' column is just a number column that I created so I'm not sure why PowerApps would have a problem with the filter. Thanks for any help.

@wyotimTrying different things this seems close but still getting the same error on the table.

You can see that the table is being returned but it doesn't like something about it and I'm not really understanding the disambiguation stuff.

Thanks

This seems even closer but it says that the "formula uses scope, which is not presently supported for evaluation".

I think this is it! Thank you much. Now I figure out how to add a search capability to Gallery 1 so I can properly test it. Thank you so much for your help!

Happy to be able to help! If I can be of assistance in the future, feel free to @ me!
