substitute for the search function

I have been doing some research on Delegation (Little blue dot that shows up at the top left of search data) and was able to find out why my formula was not working for data from a SharePoint list but the same formual was working for excel data. It turns out the Search function is not currently compatible to a SharePoint list as this link tells me: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/delegation-list/. That being said I am assuming I may be able to do the same thing with the search as with Filter and/or the lookup formulas. I just cant seem to figure out how to make it happen. Here is the formula that worked great for excel document but did not work for the Sharepoint data.

SortByColumns(Search(Table1, TextSearchBox1.Text, "Names",,"Names", If(SortDescending1, Descending, Ascending))

If anyone knows how I cam mimic this with Sharepoint data that would be great

thank you!

Re: substitute for the search function

Hi @ShawnLJ,

Please take a try to with the following way for the SharePoint data:

SortByColumns(
Filter(SharePointList, StartsWith(Names, TextSearchBox1.Text)),
"Names",
If(SortDescending1, Descending, Ascending))

Regards,

Michael

Re: substitute for the search function

Thank you for that. It is now giving me an error, here is a pic of what is looks like, the name of the table is correct, the name of the search box is correct, the Names column is correct  as well. Is there anything else I can try?

Re: substitute for the search function

When I hover over the error it says "Expected an operator (eg., +, *, &&).

When I hover over the equation itself it says: Invalid Number of arguments. The function filter has some invlid arguements.

Re: substitute for the search function

Thanks Tom I had it in the Defalt Property. Do I need top put anything into the Defalt property. Here is what it looks like now that I have put it into the items property. Error is saying I have invalid names and the filter function has some invalid arguments.

Re: substitute for the search function

Just to clarify on this. When I put in the equation into the items section it automatically moves the data source to no data so when I click the data source it then deletes the equation.

Re: substitute for the search function

Hey @ShawnLJ

Your data source should be in single quotes because it has a space in it.

So something like this:

'succesion program'

Plus you can delete the dubble quotes in the default property.

Kind regards
