Solved: why the changes are not saved in excel file ?

I want to edit a gallery with a tabled called Kapazität und Monat. And whenever i edit the Kapazität and want to save it, then the changes are not saved in excel. My approach was similar like in this video:

I do not know the cause for this problem, i show you as an example:

1. Editing the Gallery and the specific values

2. Click on Beenden to patch the changes of the Collection to the real data source

3. No changes are saved ?

What are the causes ?

Here is what I use to check this for You :

Gallery Item property colKapa

I create the colKapa in button Update Collection :

The only difference is I do not pre filter it and sorting it

Now in the Gallery OnSelect :

I'm Patching fields to the collection

The InputText Fields are set up OnChange property:

Select(Parent)

DisplayMode Property :

If(!varGridEdit1,DisplayMode.Edit,DisplayMode.Disabled)

Now the last Edit / Update button set up

Nothing fancy variable trigger to change name of the button and trigger Patch to Table than I refreshing collection by pulling new data from table

Set(varGridEdit1, !varGridEdit1);
Patch(Table2,colKapa);
ClearCollect(colKapa,Table2)

Last Text Property:

If(!varGridEdit1,"Update","Edit")

try to replicate this and if this will not work disconnect Excel connector and re connect it again.

Everything You see above working without any issue

There are few.

1. Excel online Tables like to get corrupted, and when they do best to re-create them in new files.

2. __PowerAppsID__ also likes to get corrupted, and the only way to sort it out is to reconnect connector.

3. In your button You had the wrong order of functions

This is Your original order

If(varGridEdit1;Patch(Kapazität; colKapa));; Select(Button_Kapa_1);;
Set(varGridEdit1; !varGridEdit1)

The variable varGridEdit1 is set after the IF statement so there is an issue when you press it first to execute the IF Setting opposite the variable means not always have the outcome as You expected or any at all it was depending on if you have set somewhere a default of that variable and I did not see any setting like that in your example so always keep set of a variable before IF if IF depends on it.

Could You provide Your patch Function Code.

Did You use Monitor Tool to check what happening behind scene.

Are there any errors appearing after patch is done.

Are you making sure the excel file You patching to is close on all devices when you testing the app?

i did not check the monito tool !

But let me show you what i did with the code details!

1. On change of a field then the OnChange property Select the parent like here:

in this case, it is the Gallery!

2. OnSelect of the current gallery then this function is used:

Patch(colKapa; ThisItem; { Mitarbeiter: DataCardValue15_6.Text; Monat: DataCardValue17_6.Selected.DateMonthYear; Kapazität: TextInput3_1.Text})

so the collection should be updated

3. Then i click on the Beenden Button, which updates the dataset with the collection

The OnSelect function look like this:

If(varGridEdit1;Patch(Kapazität; colKapa));; Select(Button_Kapa_1);;
Set(varGridEdit1; !varGridEdit1)

my assumption is that the collection is not really updated well!

OnSelect, this function runs

Refresh(Kapazität);;ClearCollect(colKapa; SortByColumns(Filter(Kapazität; Mitarbeiter = User().Email); "Monat"; SortOrder.Descending));;

I replicate this and on my end it's working without an issue. Your theory about collection may be right.

To check that theory You could replace Patch to collection with Direct Patch to Data Source in Gallery and see if Direct patch will result in Record change in Table direct.

Patch(Kapazität, ThisItem; { Mitarbeiter: DataCardValue15_6.Text, Monat: DataCardValue17_6.Selected.DateMonthYear, Kapazität: TextInput3_1.Text})

In Your gallery OnSelect try above after change open Your Excel and see if Patch worked or check if no error show up when you patched

So we know the connector works also all your controls work 🙂

but for performance You should still use collection and Patch Collection after You change grid View mode give me 1 hour I have a meeting at work and I digest all and look after meeting where You have and error what stopping collection to update and than Patch to Data Source.

but there is still an issue with the connector. If i edit the second item in the gallery and save it then only the first row in the excel file is changed by that action not the actual one !
