BUG: "Resume session or Start New?" results in data loss

Hello. 

 

I was just editing my app when a popup appeared that said something like: "Session expired. Resume or Start New?"

 

Connectivity: 

- WiFi + VPN

 

Steps to reproduce: 

- Received a popup that said "Resume session or Start new?"
- Clicked Resume Session

- Received a 503 error screen!

- Clicked into URL field
- Hit ENTER
- create.powerapps.com reloaded
- Selected app from list
- App loads WITHOUT the last ~10 mins edits.
- Session info:
    - Session ID: fa0be3c0-c4c2-467f-9072-3ce0886aa878
    - PowerApps 3.18072.29
 
 
Luckily it was only 10 mins worth of edits (even though I have autosave set to every 2 mins.) Would be nice to understand what happened here.

I have been getting the "Session expired. Resume or Start New?" all afternoon, maybe four of five times while working on a single app. I have not had any issue with resuming the session except that edits made since the last save were lost.

 

I thought is was just me but maybe something is going on?

Something is going on. I've received the message twice now, both with edit losses.

HI @ericonline,

 

I agree with @PhilD's thought almost. The edits made since the last save were lost within your app when your PowerApps session is expired.

 

Please check and see if the following thread would help in your scenario:

Please take a try to clear cache of your browser, and then try it again when your PowerApps app session is expired, check if the issue is solved.

Hi @v-xida-msft. I read the post you linked to. Unfortunately, the message: "As you approach the limit, you will see a message dialog informing you that the session is about to expire and that you should save your work. " ...did not appear.

 

I was left without an option but to click Resume or Start New Session. Both options resulted in data loss since last save.

Same issue HOURS of work lost, i expected autosave to function!?! 

This happened at 1915-ish and last save was 1715 ish, I am quite sure I saw the "Saved" message up in the corner! 

Disaster!

Please fix, a session shoudl not timeout with activity. The productivity lost is significant when you combine all of our efforts. What's the explaination for it timing out in the middle of editing?

This is still a problem months later. I did not get a notification that I should save. The popup actually happened right when I clicked save but before the save finished. So it appears that my last several hours are completely gone, since "Resume this Session" and "Start a New Session" do the exact same thing; restart the app editor and lose all the changes.

The session expiring is still a major issue in April of 2019!
