CDS poor performance

We converted one app to load/save data from/to CDS instead of SharePoint lists. To our amazement the performance dropped 2-5x and sometimes even worse. Some screens have "infinite" loading times (dots scrolling in the upper screen non-stop) and saving forms take 2-5x as long. CDS should be inherently faster (database infrastructure), but it seems like a disaster so far in our project.

Re: CDS poor performance

Hi @JohnP,

Sorry to hear that. CDS is a SaaS and DaaS (dev as a service) and therefore not direct database access and equivalent DB performance. Transactions will be passing through hoops of layers. The performance should be reasonable though, and I haven't gotten any major issues with many of my large-scaled implementations. Here are a few things you can try:

  1. Check that the CDS environment is provisioned in the closest region
  2. Try running to diagnostic tool to see perhaps where some of the issues are:
    More info:
  3. Refer to the best practices to ensure some configurations/customizations do not impact performance:
Note: even though is mentions "on-premise" the same applies for online
  4. There used to be no performance differences between a Sandbox and Production environment, but it is no longer the case. Configure your environment to Production type of instance and test?
  5. Try opening a Support Request at Microsoft via the Power Platform admin center portal:

Hope this helps!
