Hi,

Can I use the Default CDS environment as a Production environment or would it be better to create a proper Production Environment ?

Thanks,

Re: Can I use the Default CDS environment as a Production environment

Hi @Arioule

Yes, you can use a default environment as the Production environment, but it is barely not recommended. The reasons are:

The default environment has limits of:

  1. No users will be added to the Environment Admin role of the default environment automatically.
  2. You can't delete the default environment.
  3. You can't backup and restore the default environment.
  4. The default environment is limited to 32 GB of storage capacity.

With a Production environment, you can:

  1. Convert it to sandbox, then convert back after testing works done.
  2. Manage the permissions that who can and how to work with the CDS in the environment.
  3. More..

In short, there’s even no excuse to use the default environment instead of Production environments. You can use the default environment to learn basic knowledge about PowerApps such as how to create a Canvas app or work with a template app.

Re: Can I use the Default CDS environment as a Production environment

Hi @Arioule ,

It's my pleasure of being helped.

Supplements:

Default environment is actually a Production type environment with limits listed, one of the key points of default environment is the Security. Everyone in your AAD tenant could work with the environment.

So, if you don't care about the limits listed above, it's ok to use the default environment as the Production environment.

Have a nice day!
