Lookup DropDowns not displaying values in Data table or Gallery

Hello Forum,

I'm having issues with a Data table not returning the values that were selected in DropDowns.  Instead of the Employee Name it is returning a long string of numbers and text in the Data table so it appears to be storing values of what was selected.  Also the Gallery is not displaying the Employee Name nor Inventory Asset Name.  There are red squiggly lines under the labels and neither field is showing up as selectable fields to display in the Gallery?  The last issue is the Date Only field not working properly and it is displaying time selectors.  Why is it displaying time selectors when I chose Date Only for the Data type?

Entities

1- Employee

2- Inventory

3- Inventory Map

DropDowns

1- Employee ID, displaying First and Last Name in the DropDown

2- Inventory ID, displaying the Asset Name in the DropDown

3- Option set, Assigned, Removed, Deactivated

Issues

1- Data table not displaying the selected values from none of the three DropDowns, instead it is displaying a long string of text and numbers

2- Gallery not displaying the Employee ID or Inventory ID, they are also not shown as selectable fields to display in the Gallery?

3- Date Only field showing up with time selectors and not working properly.

Am I missing some steps somewhere?  I'm new to PowerApps and am learning quickly so I apologize if these are simple fixes that I'm just not getting.  Thank you.

I attached an image of my Form, Gallery and Data table.

Re: Lookup DropDowns not displaying values in Data table or Gallery

Hi @app_mkr33 ,

Within the Data Table control in your app, select the Employee ID and Inveotry ID field, then set the Text property of the Employee ID field to following:

ThisItem.'Employee ID'.'Primary Name'

set the Text property of the Inveotry ID field to following:

ThisItem.'Inveotry ID'.'Primary Name'

Re: Lookup DropDowns not displaying values in Data table or Gallery

Hi @app_mkr33 ,

Could you please share a bit more about your scenario?

Could you please share a bit more about the Employee ID field and Inventory ID field in your CDS Entity? Are they LookUp type fields?

For your first question and second question, actually, the LookUp field in one Entity reference values from another Entity is based on a unique GUID String, e.g. 'd0c846e2-e61e-e911-a982-000d3a82850e'.

In default, when add a Data Table control within your app, and connects it to your CDS Entity, the LookUp field would rendered as the unique GUID String value, e.g. 'd0c846e2-e61e-e911-a982-000d3a82850e'.

As an fixed solution, I think the "Enable improved data table control selection and Value property" funationality could achieve your needs. You could enabled the "Enable improved data table control selection and Value property" option within Advanced settings of App settings of your app, then add a new Data Table control in your app, set the Items property to your CDS Entity, then you could configure the Display value of the LookUp field within the Data Table as below:3.JPG

Please check and see if the following blog would help in your scenario:

https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/improved-data-table-control-with-column-formulas/

For your third question, it is an known issue with the Date Only field in CDS Entity. When generating an app based on the CDS Entity includes the Date Only field, the Date Only field would be rendered as Date time selectors in the Edit form.

As an fixed solution, you could consider unlock the Date field in your Edit form, then remove the Hours and Minute Dropdown box from it. Then modify the formula within the Update property of the Date field Data card to following:

DateValue1.SelectedDate /* <-- The previous formula may be DateValue1.SelectedDate + Time(Value(HourValue1.Selected.Value), Value(MinuteValue1.Selected.Value), 0)*/

Re: Lookup DropDowns not displaying values in Data table or Gallery

Hi Kris @v-xida-msft,

Thank you for your response.

Yes the Employee ID and Inventory ID are LookUp type fields.

I enabled the  "Enable improved data table control selection and Value property" and now the Asset Assigned, Removed, Deactivated now displays the select value instead of "object object".  However, the Employee ID and Inventory ID both still display the GUID String value, e.g. 'd0c846e2-e61e-e911-a982-000d3a82850e'.

I attached an image of the Data table.

I deleted the time fields in the Date Picker and changed the DateTimeFormat to .ShortDate now it works great.

Is there anything else to possibly try to get the Employee ID and Inveotry ID to display the selected value instead of the GUID string?

Re: Lookup DropDowns not displaying values in Data table or Gallery

Hi Kris  ,

I swtiched the Text properties to ThisItem.'Inventory ID'.'Primary Name' and ThisItem.'Employee ID'.'Primary Name'.

Now the Data table displays [object Object] in stead of the strings.  [object Object] was what the triple option set had until I switched the "Enable improved data table control selection and Value property', then it displayed the option selection.

Attached is an image of the Data table and form.

Re: Lookup DropDowns not displaying values in Data table or Gallery

Hi Kris @v-xida-msft,

I changed the Text property of the Data table for Employee ID to ThisItem.'Employee ID'.'First Name' and it now populates the display in the Data table to the First Name.

I changed the Inventory ID to ThisItem."Inventory ID'.'Asset Name' and it populates the Asset Name in the display.

Thank you Kris for the info!   Is there a way to concatenate the First and Last name?

I tried ThisItem.'Employee ID'.'First Name" & 'Last Name' but that doesn't seem to work.
