Switching Environments for Users?

Hi All,

We're currently facing an issue in helping users switch environments. Let's say we have two environments:

  • Default - The defaulted tenant when you avail of o365
  • Production - Our Production environment created with CDS

All our users have the Default tenant when they go to make.powerapps.com, but when we give them access to the apps in the Production environment, even after waiting for a few hours, they cannot switch to the Production environment because they can only see one.

We have applied the Common Data Service User role to them and have given them access to the app (for each user). When we tried to give them the application link, they can access it and can perform the app functions, but for some reason, they still cannot switch environments.

Is this the intended function for users who are not administrators? If yes, how can we give view access for users to access the entity data? My requirement is that they should be able to export the entity data in Excel since they do a daily extraction of reports in SharePoint before (we recently moved to CDS).

Re: Switching Environments for Users?

Hi @david_castillo ,

Could you please share a bit more about your scenario?

Do you want to the end users to be able to see the Production Environment on their PowerApps?

Based on the issue that you mentioned, I have made a test on my side, and don't have the issue that you mentioned. Please consider assign additional "Environment Marker" security role of your Production Environment to your end users, then try it again, check if the issue is solved.

If the issue still exists, please consider submit an assisted support ticket for further help through the following link:

Re: Switching Environments for Users?

Hi @Ashish2012 and @v-xida-msft,

Here are the sceenshots

First screenshot is my access since I'm a Power Apps admin:

Second photo is the sample user's access where he cannot see the Production environment:

And these are the roles assigned to that user:

My questions are:

  1. Is this not the intended outcome of the role? If not, then that means I will file a ticket to our support based on @Ashish2012 's recommendation
  2. Does this mean that we always need to give users the Environment Maker role so they can access the entity data? Or is it possible to give them just a Common Data Service User?

Re: Switching Environments for Users?

Thanks, @v-xida-msft, and @Ashish2012.

I've checked just now and it seems that the Environment Maker works. I'm not sure why but I'm guessing this is more of a propagation issue. I'm going to accept the solution now recommended by @v-xida-msft.

Re: Switching Environments for Users?

The environment maker role is for users who need to be able to create and share apps and flows in that environment. If that is what you want, then you are good. If all you want is for them to have access to the data, then that is not the appropriate role.
