Can I make interactive apps in PowerApps using a simple excel spreadsheet?

I have made a simple excel spreadsheet, that uses values from a table and works out a CEQ value for a certain material composition using an equation. I am currently trying to figure out how I can import this into an interactive app. In the app I would like to be able to change the numbers in the table when in use and then for it to use my equation to work out a new CEQ value.

Does anyone know if such an app can be created in PowerApps? If so does anyone know how to do this?

Thank you

Re: Can I make interactive apps in PowerApps using a simple excel spreadsheet?

Hi @george5,

Could you please share a bit more about the data structure of your Excel table?

Do you add a equation expression within your Excel table to calculate the CEQ value?

If you added a equation expression within your Excel table to calculate the CEQ value, in other words, you added a calculated column in your Excel table, I afraid that there is no way to use such Excel table to create an app within PowerApps currently.

It is a known limit that if your Excel data includes a calculated column, you can't use it to build an app, and you can’t add that data to an existing app. Please check the following article for more details:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/connections/cloud-storage-blob-connecti...

As an alternative solution, you should remove the calculated column from your Excel table, then add a Normal type column (Text) in your Excel table to store the CEQ value. After that, generated an app based on your new Excel table, then do the calculation operation within then app, then update the calculated result into your Excel table.

I have made a test on my side, please take a try with the following workaround:

The data structure of my Excel table as below:11.JPG

Note: Total = Price * Quantity

Genrate an app based on above Excel table, the generated app as below:12.JPG

Within the Edit form of the Edit screen, unlock the Total Data card, set the Default proeprty of the Text Input box within the Total Data card to following:

Value(DataCardValue4.Text)*Value(DataCardValue5.Text)

Note: The DataCardValue4 represents the Text Input box within the Price Data card, The DataCardValue5 represents the Text Input box within the Quantity Data card.

More details about generating an app based on an Excel table, please check the following article:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/get-started-create-from-data

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/connections/cloud-storage-blob-connecti...

Re: Can I make interactive apps in PowerApps using a simple excel spreadsheet?

Good Morning,

Thank you very much for the reply it has helped me get started with what I wanted to acheive. The data I wanted to show in the app is the following:

Capture.JPG

I am trying to make an interactive app, where the user can change the values for the elements within the app which would then use the above formula to generate a new CEQ value that would then be displayed in the app also. Would this be possible?

Kind Regards,
George
