Powerapps potential

Hey guys, I'm looking for some help and I'm not even sure if I'm in the right place for my concept.

I have a business need to streamline proposal creation for two documents.  Currently I have one document where the template is stored in Sharepoint, we use metadata to track and the calculations are handled by an imbedded spreadsheet (this one is less of a concern).  I also have a proposal that traditionally has been based in Excel - heavy calculations and numerous tables/charts.  To create this proposal requires a lot of time to input data into Excel then copy/paste the charts and tables into a word template.

I am curious if Powerapps is a platform that can streamline the latter.  I have scoured the internet and so far it looks like Powerapps is essentially a tool to view and edit data, but not a tool that can facilitate analysis.  I understand that today there is no method to produce documents from Powerapps and can figure a workaround with MS Flow, but I haven't found any literature on how to perform calculations and display output from those calculations using Powerapps.  The structure of the excel sheet is essentially a mini relational DB - everything is done in named tables and ranges with lookups based off of specific keys in each table.  If need be, I can attach the file (although it is rather large at this point).

My primary concern is that within the organization there is only one person (me) who can effectively use this in it's current format and I'd like to be able to extend this to the rest of the sales staff with something that is more user friendly and accessible.  Am I even in the right place or should I look elsewhere for another tool?

Side note: I'd prefer something MS driven since the organization heavily uses D365 and O365 for nearly everything else.

Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is a silly question.

Re: Powerapps potential

Hi @jgedwards5,

If you want to do dome calculations based on your Excel table, I think PowerApps could achieve your needs. You could achieve your needs via using built-in functions in PowerApps.

More details about the built-in functions in PowerApps, please check the following article:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/formula-reference

You could create a PowerApps app based on your Excel table, then do dome CRUD operations within it. After that, you could publish your app, then share it with other users (colleagues) in your Organization, then the other users could also use this shared app.

More details about creating an app based on Excel table, please check the following article:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/get-started-create-from-data

More details about sharing an app, please check the following article:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/share-app

In addition, if you want to display your data using a better Visualization tool, I think Power BI could achieve your needs. You could display your data using Column chart visualization, Line chart visualization, etc in Power BI.

More details about Power BI, please check the following article:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/power-bi-creator-landing

Kris

Re: Powerapps potential

You would want to go over the mathematical functions that are available in PowerApps. They are not as sophisticated as those in Excel but they may suffice. You can display the results of the calculations in labels. You will be able to import your tables into PowerApps but importing calculated data is not currently supported. You will be able to create data entry forms for your tables for fields that are used for the calculations and you should be able to use your Excel files to create Word documents.
