Ability for the manager to approve

Hi,

I have a SharePoint list customized using power apps and it has an approval status choice field that has three possible values “In progress”, “Ready for Review” and “Manager Approved”.

We also capture Employee name and manager’s name in two separate fields.

currently the challenge I have is that it does not prevent the original employee to change the status to Manager Approved.

Ideally only Manager should be able to change the status to “Manager Approved”.

I am open for changing the design of the form where I can create manager approval field and expose two buttons “Approve” “Reject” to Manager only. When manager clicks “Approve”,  automatically manager approval field should appear on the form in a disabled state with its value set to “Approved”. Once the manager approval field is set to Approved, entire form should become read only. If I go with this approach, I will rename approval status field to time card status and remove the manager Approved choice field option.

For this new approach, how can I expose the “Approve” “Reject” buttons to manager only ? And how to set a field value once the manager clicks “ Approve”
