Check Box for multiple selections

Quite suprisingly, Poweraps still doesn't support multi select checkboxes https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/PowerApps-Ideas/Multi-select-checkboxes-option/idi-p/220117

With this being the case, what is the current best practice for when you have a SharePoint list with a column set to choice and you want a user to select multiple checkboxes (rather than a dropdown)?

For example, I have a SharePoint list that contains a column called "PersonalityType". The column settings allow multiple selections and the choices are "Postive" , "Fun" , "Passionate", "Calm". How am I best to set this up to display in PowerApps to users can tick as many of these as they wish?

Re: Check Box for multiple selections

Hi @samhegartyunsw ,

Yes, drop down control is for multiple choice by default, while check box is for radio by default.

If you want to use check box for multiple choice, you could cusctomize the field.

Here's a similar test for your reference:

Unlock the PersonalityType field, delete drop down control, insert check boxes.

Set the PersonalityType field's DataCard's Update:

RenameColumns(Filter(test,value=true).id,"id","Value")

Set the submit button's OnSelect:

ClearCollect(test,{id:"a",value:Checkbox1.Value},
{id:"b",value:Checkbox2.Value},
{id:"c",value:Checkbox3.Value},
{id:"d",value:Checkbox4.Value});SubmitForm(Form1)

On your side, you could try:

ClearCollect(test,{id:"Postive",value:Checkbox1.Value},
                  {id:"Fun",value:Checkbox2.Value},
                  {id:"Passionate",value:Checkbox3.Value},
                  {id:"Calm",value:Checkbox4.Value});SubmitForm(Form1)

Then, the check box will can be used to update mutiple choice.

However, if you use drop down, everything will be more simple. Just "Dropdown.SelectedItems" will represent the selections.

If you insist in using check box, customize it.714.png
