Combobox multiple selections to a single column in a SharePoint list?

I have a combobox which gets its choices from a SharePoint list column (column A). It's multiple selection, so the user can choose Choice 1, Choice 3 and Choice 4 or whatever they want.

It is possilbe to take those choices and create a text string so that we can populate another SharePoint list column (column B)? I'm only ever able to get it to send a maximum of 1 user Choice, I assume because it wants a seperate SharePoint list column for each Choice value to be stored in.

I thought that using the Concatenate function would work, but I get errors like "Expected text value".

Hi @Garyjm2000

There are two Concatenate functions available. The Concatenate function accepts text as its parameters joins them together as a single value. The Concat function accepts a table/list and can join these records using a common separator.

In your case you want to use a formula like the below

Concat(ComboBox1.SelectedItems, Value1,", ")

ComboBox1 should be changed to name of your ComboBox control

Value1 should be changed to the name of the field in your ComboBox that you want to concatenate

The 3rd parameter is the separator. The example above will generate a string like "Item 2, Item 3, Item 5".

Hi @Garyjm2000

You are currently using Concat(WeatherBox.SelectedItems, WeatherBox.Selected.Value,", ")

Try changing this to Concat(WeatherBox.SelectedItems, Value,", ") and see if that fixes your issue.

@KHagen this may also help you if you have followed a similar format in your Concat function.

Re: Combobox multiple selections to a single column in a SharePoint list?

Thanks for that. Can you check if I'm doing this right?

Combobox 'WeatherBox' is getting its choices from a SharePoint list column called 'WeatherChoice'.

I've used the following: Concat(WeatherBox.SelectedItems, WeatherClean,", ")

That's in the 'Update' of the Datacard that contained the combobox named 'WeatherBox'. 'WeatherClean' is the destination column in the SharePoint list where I want the string to end up.

Whoops, I saw my mistake!

I should be using Concat(WeatherBox.SelectedItems, WeatherBox.Selected.Value,", ")

Thanks very much, I couldnt have done this without your help.

Re: Combobox multiple selections to a single column in a SharePoint list?

Something strange has happened in the weeks following this- now, when I choose multiple items from the list, it just repeats the same item in the SharePoint column. So if I chose "Rain / Wind / Snow" in the app, it shows "Rain, Rain, Rain" in SharePoint. I havent changed anything so I'm not sure what to do now.

Hi @LeeHarris, I am getting the same results as Gary. I've selected 2 items but text field returns, "value1, value1" Any more ideas?

Hi @LeeHarris @Garyjm2000 , Concat(WeatherBox.SelectedItems, Value,", ") worked to fix my error. Thanks! Lee.
