Default Selected Manager based on Selected Person

Hi, I hope someone could help me with the below-

I have a field for a person, and a field for their manager. The Person field sould be populated upon app start with the User(), and the Manager with the User()'s manager. However, if the Person is updated, the Manager should update to show the selected Person's manager.

Right now, there are two scenarios - both which don't work entirely:

1. If I use 'edit selection' for both fields, I get the error "Manager has an invalid value for parameter 'userId'" every time the Person field is blank in the process of changing the person selected (but then it updates Manager correctly)

2. If I use 'edit selection' for Person, and 'Edit lookup' for Manager, I don't get the error message, and the Manager field populates properly upon app start, but doesn't update if the Person changes.

Does anyone have a solution for how to configure this scenario? It would be hugely appreciated as I've been stuck on this for a significant amount of time trying a variety and mix of setting and using context variables, onchange, default, and update properties...

Re: Default Selected Manager based on Selected Person

So the Person and the Manager are both Person or group type defined in SharePoint list, right?

Are those two fields within the same EditForm control?

How do you configure the default property of those two fields, would you please share the related formula here?

For the EditSelection and the EditLookup selection, I will explain based on my experience:

1. EditSelection

This option changes the Input control into a ComboBox control, which owns a search field and the search list, under the "..." part, there is no Display field could be selcted,

2. EditLookup

This option changes the Input as the old Lookup control (earlier versions built for the Lookup field), and under the "..." it allows you to configure display fields:
