Update SharePoint List Item Properties without modifying Modified Date/Time

Provide functionality to update properties like we have in SSOM - SystemUpdate(false) - method. This would be most useful when updating items and not triggering an endless loop when using ItemCreated or modified action in Flow.  Also, this is useful when you want to update metadata without causing another major or minor version.

Hi @dbro ,

Please refer to this idea that already suggested same or in some cases similar idea and was declined before. At this time, SharePoint product team has no plans to support system update capability for SharePoint Online.

Thanks,

Hi @Chakkaradeep ,

Thanks for the reply.  This is indeed dissapointing;  many of us who have been using SharePoint 2007, 2010 & 2013 style workflows to automate processes over the last 10 years will find this a major adoption barrier.  I get that there are workarounds (there always is), but this feels like a major miss by not building this into flow.  If the SystemUpdate() method is available now in CSOM, please advise on whether it'd be possible to build a flow action that leverages this?

I ended up solving this using a workaround:

1.) Created azure function with reference to CSOM (it now has System.Update() method)

2.) Call my azure function from flow and pass my inputs:

-SiteUrl

-ListName

-ItemID

-ColName

-UpdateVal

3.) This updates my sharepiont list item, but does not trigger an Item Modified Flow to Run (nor does it trigger a version)- exactly what i wanted in this case.
